A tougher weeks fishing from both the main and top lake at Creedy.  With very little signs of fish topping and jumping it has been a challenge to even decide where to fish for some anglers, the boathouse bank and the right hand bank have being most popular with the anglers

Heaviest fish for the week was banked by Burt Collins when he chose to fish the first swim on the right hand bank.  After a slow start the Exeter angler still decided to sit tight and wait. Burt legered amid the margins under the tree line to his right and tempted 2 fish topped by his big specimen - a 26lbs 14oz common, his other catch was a 14lbs common carp.  Newton Abbott  roofer John Fenlon continues his magic and fished the left hand bank some way up past the boathouse.  He landed one tench along with a pair of 20pounder commons - scaling 26lbs 8oz and 21lbs 14oz.  On another day session John banked three doubles best of 19lbs 8oz along with a tench.   Ali Baker out fished her partner Dave Grylls when he hooked two commons this week, firstly banking one of 11lbs 2oz followed by a 22lbs 9oz specimen. Rob Kendall of Bideford reported largest bag of 7 fish, all double figures when he fished mid way on the right hand bank.  His all common catches ranged from 11lbs up to 19lbs 4oz and gave a total bag weight of over 104lbs of fish. Other sizeable bags included Newton Abbott's Geoff Waring with his 5 fish (ranging from 9lbs to 18lbs 8oz equaling 67lbs of fish) and during another day sesison Geoff banked 3 good sized commons topped with a pair of 18pounders.  Crediton's Phil Tucker banked 5 fish including 4 doubles with his largest fish weighing 17lbs 10oz. Bridgwater angler Adam Crockett also fished the right hand bank and landed 3 doubles of 18lbs 13oz, 15lbs and 10lbs whilst he out fished his brother Darren who reported just the one double.  Ali Laird of Barnstaple was pleased with his beautiful looking golden tench which he tempted off the far bank and weighed 5lbs 6oz.  His brother Ian decided to fish light and moved several times tempting a total of 5 fish including one off the surface. Willand junior angler Jamie Pike had best junior catch for the week when he landed his 16lbs 2oz common along with one other scaling 14lbs exactly.

Tuesday 25th March 2008

A reasonable weeks fishing with generally some larger bags of fish reported from all three  banks of the main lake.  The chilly winds and cold weather did not however dampen spirits for those anglers who put on their thermal suits  for some angling sport.  Bristol angler Dean Goodwill couldn't go wrong when he decided to fish mid way on the right hand bank at Creedy this past week.  Using pop-up boillies fished in conjunction with pellet in pva bags his tactics tempted a grand total of 13 fish all of commons.  His heaviest catch tipped the scales to 22lbs 7oz, followed by carp of 19lbs,18lbs,17lbs, a pair of 15lbs three low doubles and four single figures.  His total bag weight amounted to 158lbs of fish - heaviest bag for the week. Pictured below is the specimen 22lbs 7oz followed by ones of 19lbs and 18lbs.

Largest bag for the week was banked by Crediton's Chris Hill who fished the 3rd swim on the right hand bank.  Using the Billetts boillies Chris hooked a toat of 14 fish all of which were commons up to 18lbs 8oz.  Paul Wood of Newton Abbott had his best day at Creedy so far with the wind blowing up to the finger  fishing the shallow waters at the top of the left hand bank.  His bag comprised of 4 common carp weighing 15lbs 1oz, 18lbs 3oz, 18lbs 7oz and topped by one of 21lbs 13oz.  Brother, Dave Wood of Kingsteignton fished slightly lower down from Paul and reported a good day session with 3 nice catches, all commons scaling 14lbs 6oz, 16lbs 9oz and topped with a 20lbs 11oz specimen. Fellow Torquay angling companion Dave Parnell had two commons to 15lbs 3oz.  Exeter's Martin Bennett fished mid way on the right hand bank and landed a total of 8 fish, 7 of which were double figures.  Topping his bag were a pair of  18lbs 4oz common carp followed with a 17lbs 4oz, one of 16lbs 8oz, 15lbs 8oz, 15lbs 4oz, a 13lbs 8oz and a single figure.  Martin's combined fish weight bag amounted to 120lbs of fish - his top three catches photographed below in order of heaviest first.

Heaviest catch for the week, a 25lbs common was reported was by Bodmin angler Darren Palmer.  Darren was fishing adjacent to the old boathouse on the left hand bank amid deep water when he tempted his one catch which gave him a new personal best catch.  Crediton decorator Paul Gribble banked a lovely looking specimen common which tiipped the scales to 22lbs 8oz. Heaviest mirror carp of 20lbs 8oz was banked by Copplestone's Phil Tucker.  Phil fished in the first swim on the right hand bank and his 7 fish bag consisted of 5 double figures and a pair of singles - well deserved catches Phil.  Tiverton angler Wayne Richards fished 3/4 way up on the right hand bank and was pleased with his new personal best catch, a 23lbs 2oz common using Billetts boillies.  Newton angler Jason Greenfield recorded a 5 fish bag of all good sized common carp and a total bag weight of over 77lbs of fish with his heaviest catch scaling 20lbs 4oz along with a pair of 18lbs , one of 16 and one of 14lbs.  Mr M. Williams reported a cold day but managed to bank a 20lbs 8oz specimen common over the weekend, Myles Gerrard of Tiverton fished the point swim on the far bank and landed a nice 18lbs 2oz specimen.  Minehead junior, Tom McGowan fished the boathouse bank and was rewarded with a total of 6 fish when he legered maggots, his largest catches were a pair of 14 pounders.  North Tawton angler John Grayling reported a 3 fish bag with a single and a pair of commons to 19lbs 1oz and Exeter's Roger Bowskill banked 4 low to mid doubles.

Tuesday 18th March 2008

Fierce winds and heavy rainfall has made weather conditions somewhat less appealing but for all those who did venture out the fishing was very rewarding. Action has been seen on all three of the main lake banks with some good sport also being had out of the top lake. This past week have seen some good larger catches including heaviest fish out on the bank which equaled last years record catch. Overall a better weeks fishing all round with some larger sized bag catches.

Heaviest fish for the week was banked by Crediton's  Steven Hill when he landed his 29lbs 4oz common - pictured below.

Steve fished 3/4 way up on the right hand bank amid mid water depths using Billetts boillies, the latest peach n plum with secret agent flavor.  This catch does equal the largest catch of last season of the same weight (29lbs 4oz) but that was a mirror carp which was caught by Exeter's Roger Bowskill.  So potentially this early season catch could go much heavier during the pre spawning period, lets watch this space.

Newton Abbott angler John Fenlon seems to be setting the pace for Creedy this year.  He banked a cracking specimen common which tipped the scales to 25lbs exactly which tallies is big fish catches to 4 x 20 pounders this season.  During other sessions John banked  a 20lbs 14oz common and the following day landed 3 fish scaling 10lbs 2oz, 12lbs 8oz and topping his catches was an 18lbs 4oz common. Street angler Mr C. Davis visited Creedy for the first time this season and landed a lovely looking common which weighed 24lbs 9oz whilst fishing along the right hand bank.  Holiday guest Liam Wall tempted some good mid upper doubles and also one of 21lbs 12oz this past week. Darren Baker and Adam Phillips of Bridgwater enjoyed a good day session with some larger catches including common of 21lbs, 20lbs, 19lbs and 18lbs 2oz.  Last year's junior trophy winner Nathan Bird visited from Gloucester and hooked a 21lbs common whilst fishing 2/3 way up on the left hand bank, his chauffeur father did tempt a 13lbs 5oz common carp fortunately at the last minute.  Geoff Waring from Newton Abbott angler also notched 4 x 20pounders when he landed a 21lbs common last week.  His catches amounted to a total of 6 fish (joint largest bag shared by 3 anglers this week from the main lake).  Geoff landed one single, 4 doubles to 19lbs 8oz along with his big fish.  His total bag weight compounded to just over 93lbs of fish.  On another occasion Geoff fished the right hand bank and hooked just the one fish, a 17lbs 8oz common. Crediton's Mike Izzard also banked a total of 6 fish, all double figures this past week, his total bag weight making just short of 93lbs of fish falling short by ounces from Geoff's bag.  Jason Greenfield of Newton Abbott also reported 6 commons one session, all double figures topped with a pair of 18's (his total bag weight amounted to just under 90lbs of fish).  Exeter angler Matt Davies fished mid way up on right hand bank and landed a total of 3 fish topped by one catch of 22lbs 3oz.  Newton Abbott's Jason Greenfield hooked 5 good doubles from the top of right hand bank, his catches ranging from 11lbs 2oz up to 15lbs 8oz. Roy from Newton Abbott fished the far bank and successfully landed 5 commons best of 17lbs 5oz whilst his partner Jill banked 2 fish.  Bridgwater angler Ryan Knight fished megabaits boillies and banked commons of 19lbs 12oz and 12lbs 2oz.  Willand junior angler Jamie Pike also fished megabaits and landed commons scaling 13lbs and 17lbs 6oz.  Roger Bowskill fished 3/4 way up on the left hand bank and landed 3 double figure commons best of 17lbs, Exeter's Adrain Lazarus fished towards the top of left bank and banked 3 commons to 17lbs.  Honiton angler Tony M. fished near the boat house on the left bank and was well pleased with his one catch, a lovely looking 19lbs 8oz common. Crediton's Phil Tucker reported a good mixed bag of 5 fish with 4 carp including 3 double figures to low mid doubles plus one green tench.  Newton Abbott's Stephen Hird banked largest tench for the week scaling 4lbs exactly, Stephen also banked 3 good sized doubles up to 18lbs 12oz.

Some good sport reported out from the top lake with Jill and Roy of Newton Abbott who had a cracking day session with 30 carp best of up to 14lbs in size.

Tuesday 11th March 2008

A tougher weeks form this past week generally has been the comment from those anglers who brave the present weather. Blustery winds and heavy rainfall has seen the main lake water level suddenly rise and has without a doubt lowered water temperatures. These unfavorable conditions have certainly slowed fishing form for several but not all anglers. The margins are probably your best bet at the moment with several fish visibly sheltering under tree line margins.  There have been some fizzing and bubbling present - so worth fishing to those spots.

Heaviest catch was by North Devon angler Marcus Carpenter when he sucessfully hooked into his 25lbs 10oz carp.  The common was tempted to the right of the central island whilst fishing midway on the right hand bank.  Marcus also banked another good specimen, a 22lbs common along with another scaling 12lbs. A new personal best catch for Gareth Penna when he hooked and landed his 24lbs specimen common from the top of right hand bank.  Fishing his home made baits, the Bow angler also tempted a 15lbs 8oz common.  Gareth couldn't resist another session the following day, this time fishing the first swim on the right hand bank.  Again Gareth landed two fish his best catch weighing 20lbs 8oz on his home mades. Bideford angler Bengi Smith reported a good catch, a lovely looking common which tipped the scales to 22lbs 10oz whilst his fellow angling mate Oisin banked a pair of doubles.  Crediton's Mike Izzard continues to set the fishing pace at Creedy again banking another good catch. During his Friday session Mike banked this pristine looking common (pictured below) which tipped the scales to 21lbs exactly. Mike also reported two other catches of 17lbs 5oz and 9lbs 11oz whilst fishing 3rd swim of the right hand bank.

Geoff Waring of Newton Abbott found success on the boat house bank when he landed two catches from mid to deeper waters.  His two fish, both commons weighed 20lbs 2oz and 13lbs.  Crediton builder Sean Bevan fished 3/4 way up on the boathouse bank and was rewarded with two fish.  His catches, both commons scaled 21lbs 9oz and 12lbs exactly.  Crediton's Dan Strong fished the top of the boathouse bank amid shallower water depths banking 3 commons to 20lbs 2oz.  Dean Willoughby of Barnstaple recorded two catchs of 17lbs 12oz and 12lbs, Exeter's Roger Bowskill hooked a pair of doubles scaling 13lbs and 16lbs 8oz and  Bridgwater angler Shaun Depledge tempted two commons to 16lbs.  Poughill angler Micky Palmer reported heaviest tench for the week scaling 4lbs 8oz fishing from the boathouse bank and Newton Abbott angler David Grylls reported largest bag of 6 fish. David fished right in the first corner of the boathouse bank amid shallow water and banked a pair of single figure mirror carp along with 4 commons - 3 doubles of 14lbs 2oz, 15lbs and topped with a 19lbs 5oz.

Fishing form in the top lake has been reasonable with Exeter's Mark Downing banking 7 fish (largest bag) and fellow angler David Cameron banking 4 fish.  Between them their catches ranged from 7lbs up to 15lbs - heaviest fish out of top lake.

Tuesday 4th March 2008

Creedy's 2008 season kicked off last Thursday 28th February to an excellent start with around 16 fish on the bank on opening day.  Crediton's Chris Hill had plenty to smile about when he hooked into this lovely 24lbs specimen common - pictured below.

Chris dropped into the first swim on the right hand bank and decided to fish close to the corner island amid shallower waters legering  Billetts boillies - the latest flavor peach n plum with secret agent.  Chris finished his day session with a good bag  of 4 fish.

Crediton's Mike Izzard banked heaviest fish since opening when he hooked this 27lbs 8oz common below:

Mike had been fishing in his favorite swim at the top of right hand bank but decided to move after he spotted some bubbling and good colour midway between the boathouse and the central island.  His move certainly paid off as within half an hour of moving this cracking common was coaxed onto the bank.  This catch equals Mike's best catch all last season (his best catch was an equal sized mirror carp) giving him a new p.b. common and certainly gets this new season off to a great start.  The only downer is that Mike has to catch another 32 x 20pounders to beat last year's incredible catch record of 32 x 20pounders throughout the 2007 season.  Mike finished his session with a total of 5 fish (joint largest bag) and his total bag weight amounted to 71lbs 5oz - heaviest bag to date.  We look forward to seeing how this season goes Mike.

Newton Abbott roofer Jon Fenlon got his season off to a good start when he fished the point swim on the far bank and soon hooked into heaviest mirror carp - a 20lbs mirror carp.  John has also visited twice since and banked commons of 19lbs 8oz and 22lbs 4oz.  Fellow Newton Abbott angler Geoff Waring has also had some good results when he fished a couple of day sessions, each time banking good sized fish - during his best session Geoff banked 4 commons, catches scaled 11lbs , 13lbs, 21lbs and 23lbs 8oz giving a bag weight of 68lbs 8oz.  Simon Diment of St Austell visited Creedy for the first time and was well pleased with his result of 3 big catches whilst fishing the far bank.  His heaviest fish - a 22lbs 8oz common was followed by one of 21lbs exactly and Simon also banked a 19lbs 8oz mirror carp.  Minehead angler Si Jeffs hooked himself a new personal best catch of 22lbs 5oz, Weston Supermare angler Colin Fowler banked 4 fish  scaling 22lbs 10oz, a pair of 16's and one of 10lbs when he fished the first swim on right hand bank. Torquay angler Gordon Batt achieved his goal re catching a 20pounder which he was unable to do last season.  During an evening session Gordon landed a 20lbs 11oz common from the 5th swim on the right hand bank along with a single figure carp.  Taff Vanstone of Plymouth also achieved his goal in style - hoping for a 20 pounder from Creedy.  He fished the first swim on the right hand bank and was well chuffed when he hooked into his 19lbs 5oz which gave him a new personal best catch.  He then went on to catch a 20lbs 11oz common ( another new p.b.) and land one scaling 17lbs.  Fellow Plymouth angling mate John Heath also had some luck banking a pair of commons to 21lbs.  Minehead angler, 16 year old junior  Tom Mc Gowan fished near the boathouse on the left hand bank and landed just the one fish, a lovely looking common of 20lbs 2oz.  Taunton angler Lloyd Shattock got a pleasing result on his first visit to Creedy for some time landing a 22lbs 10oz specimen common.  Chris Hill fished the boat house bank and recorded a 3 fish bag with his largest catch scaling 21lbs exactly.

Largest bag so far since opening was by Crediton's James Snell who fished the top of left hand bank amid shallow water near the finger.  James totaled 5 fish, all commons best weighing 18lbs 8oz.  Crediton's Wayne Grinney banked 3 fish to 15lbs from mid way on right bank, Weston super mare taxi driver Andy Walrond banked two good doubles of 15lbs and 17lbs, local farrier Gareth Simpson tempted a pair of commons to 13lbs 8oz, Minehead angler Tim Woodbridge also reported a pair of commons of 14lbs.  Somerset angler Andy Dade reported a nice plump tench - first of the season which tipped the scales to 6lbs 3oz along with a pair of doubles to 12lbs.

Overall an excellent, encouraging start to the season

Wednesday 2nd January 2008

Creedy lakes ended it's season at 11pm last evening and is now closed with the new season commencing at 05.30hrs on Thursday 28th February 2008.

The tail end of the season fished well with some big fish and also some good bags were seen over the last fortnight making those final trips well worth while. The heaviest fish banked during this period was by Adrian Mills who  fished size 16mm, winterized B5 boillies ledgering towards the central island.  His 24lbs 13oz common certainly looked full of the Christmas overindulgence - picture below:

This catch came along with a single figure common carp and gave Adrian a new personal best fish, a nice ending to his season. Crediton engineer Mike Izzard had two very good sessions at Creedy to end an amazing season, on his first session before Christmas Mike banked 5 commons during a session topped with a 23lbs 7oz and also one of 20lbs 4oz.

On his next session before the New Year Mike moved twice during his day session  which paid dividends.  Mike banked a total of 7 fish topped with another pair of 20's - scaling 22lbs 12oz and 21lbs exactly.  Pictures below:

These last big catches bring his season's total to 32 x 20pounders in 2007 ( MIke's previous record for 2006 was 22 x 20pounders,  it has only just got better for Mike, it's still a very hard target to beat for next season - good luck Mike! ).

Christmas day anglers Jill and Roy from Chudleigh were well rewarded for their efforts, especially Jill who worked a night shift at Wonford hospital before spending the day on the bankside.  Jill banked a 22lbs 9oz specimen common and just pipped her partner Roy when he landed his catch, a common scaling 22lbs 2oz - a very close and even call - well done both of you. Both fish were tempted by homemade boillies from the shallow to mid water depths on the first & second swim on the boathouse bank.  Newton Abbott's John Fenlon put in a few sessions over Christmas and was rewarded with a 22lbs common during one session and during the other session John banked 4 commons up to 19lbs 11oz - congratulations to John who only visited Creedy for the first time back in the autumn but he has certainly got to grips with the water.  Fellow angler Geoff Harding reported a good session with largest bag of 9 fish in total on the last day of the season.  Geoff did change swim during his session when he stalked five fish out from the very shallow finger at the top of the left hand bank then returning to his swim higher side of the boathouse where he banked another 3 fish from.  His heaviest catch that day scaled 24lbs in weight whilst during another session Geoff banked 3 commons to 20lbs exactly.  A new personal best for Martin Lobb when he banked his 23lbs 14oz specimen whilst fishing higher side of the boat house on the left hand bank.  Martin also managed to tempt another common weighing 19lbs 14oz.  Stuart Morrish tempted himself a new personal best catch when he banked his 21lbs 4oz common - pictured below:

His previous Personal best catch was 17lbs 10oz.  Stuart also then banked this 19lbs 15oz specimen common pictured below later in the evening, both of his fish were tempted by B5 boillies.

Neil from Exeter (sorry Neil no surname) banked a pair of commons best weighing 23lbs exactly.  Jeff Baggs of Cullompton fished at the top of left hand bank and and experienced a productive day banking a pair of commons scaling 23lbs and 17lbs 2oz.

He jointly claimed a 21lbs common with Darren Short of Tiverton who fished next door.  Darren recorded 5commons three of which were double figures up to 19lbs which is pictured below:

Glen Wills banked 4 fish with his heaviest catch tipping the scales to 22lbs 13oz, Bideford angler Alan Clarke banked a nice 17lbs 12oz specimen from the left hand bank.  Paignton angler Mark Owen landed 3 commons including a pair of double figure commons up to 16lbs 4oz.  Chris Jones of Bridport fished the right hand bank and reported a pair of commons scaling 14lbs 14oz and 18lbs 4oz. Tiverton's Myles Gerrard banked a 5 fish bag with 3 good sized commons up to 20lbs exactly and also had a pair of mirror carp including heaviest mirror for the fortnight with his 19lbs specimen. Minehead angler Tim Woodbridge had an enjoyable last session banking 4 fish, all his catches were commons and three of them double figures with best scaling 16lbs 10oz.  Myles Gerrard of Tiverton also reported a top day when he landed 4 commons up to 17lbs and Ryan Knight of Bridgwater banked a pair of double figure commons up to 18lbs 6oz.  Exeter angler Nick Howland reported a slow but enjoyable day when he tempted a pair of commons including a 17lbs along with a single figure carp. And finally a mention for Weston-super-mare angler Mr D. Harper who was well pleased with his one catch session when he fished on the right hand bank but gained a new personal best catch when he landed his 14lbs 8oz common - may you better that in 2008 Dave, well done.

A picturesque end to the season!!  May we thank all our anglers for their custom over 2007, we wish everyone a very happy new year and healthy and happy 2008.  We would also like to say a  big thank you to everyone for all the wonderful pictures you have supplied us over the year - we look forward to many more this coming year.

Best wishes from everyone at Creedy.

Tuesday 18th December 2007

Not much longer to go for the Creedy '07 season with just two weeks of fishing time to go, lets hope that it's not too cold. The chilly weather has certainly sorted out the boys from the men - and there obviously aren't many men!  The lakes have not been frozen over but there has been a patch or two of ice on the surface and the dip tanks have had a sheet of ice.  Surprisingly with all this cold weather and bitter winds there have still been some fish caught with heaviest catch this week going to Newton Abbott angler  Dave O'Brien.  Dave's largest catch, a mirror carp (pictured below) tipped the scales to 22lbs exactly.  Also in his bag was a 5lbs mirror and three plump commons of 13lbs, 14lbs and 9lbs, all were caught from 2/3 way up on the right hand bank fishing into mid to deeper waters.

Gordon Batt of Torquay had heaviest common for the week when fishing pineapple pop-up maggots and during an evening session banked a pair of commons up to 18lbs and the following day session he tempted three commons weighing 7lbs, 8lbs and 14lbs.  David Grylls also of Newton Abbott landed three commons topped with a  17lbs 8oz specimen common  when he fished 3/4 way up on right hand bank.  His two other catches scaled  15lbs and 12lbs.

In the top lake Paington's Tony Chown enjoyed some action although less than usual he reported an enjoyable day with some single figure commons.

Tuesday 11th December 2007

Fishing form at Creedy is still very buoyant with some excellent bags reported and again some good big fish catches.  All main banks fishing well at various times, possibly mid to deeper waters performing well but don't overlook the shallows at the top of the right and left bank as the fish are definitely there and active at present.

Largest bag and heaviest fish this week was by web designer & computer engineer Clive Franklin.  The Taunton angler chose to fish 2/3 way up on right hand bank and tempted a grand total of 17 fish - an amazing bag for December.  Using Billett boillies  His total bag weight amounted to around 180lbs of fish.  Clive's heaviest catch was a plump 25lb 4oz common carp - pictured on the landing mat.

He then went on to land another five 20pounders (6 x 20's in total, 9 doubles to 19lbs 7oz and a  pair of singles).  Pictured below are two other catches, 23lbs followed by a 20lbs 7oz.

Newton Abbott's Geoff Waring fished on the boathouse bank amid deeper water and reported one of his best sessions at Creedy this season with a 10 fish bag.  All his catches were commons and his largest fish tipped the scales to 24lbs 12oz.  Crediton's Wayne Grinney also reported an excellent bag of 9 fish including 3 x 20's on Billett's bait.  Topping his bag was heaviest mirror carp for the week, a 22lbs specimen.  The remainder of his catches were commons of 20lbs 8oz, 20lbs 2oz and 6 doubles ranging from 14lbs up to 19lbs 8oz.  Crediton painter & decorator Paul Gribble reported an active evening session with 7 commons, his best catch scaling 20lbs 8oz, all tempted again by Billetts.  The Crockett brothers all had a good session when they fished the far bank using shellfish B5 boillies.  Darren had 6 fish with 3 x 20pounders - 22lbs 8oz, 21lbs 9oz and 20lbs.  HIs other three doubles were 17lbs 8oz, 16lbs  and 14lbs respectively and amassed to a bag weight of just over 111lbs of fish.  Brother Adam had largest fish from the three of them when he landed a 24lbs 8oz common.  Adam also hooked a 20lbs 6oz and one of 18lbs.  Simon banked three fish including a pair of 16pounders and one of 18lbs 6oz.  Taunton tiler John Keirle banked a 4 fish bag with two singles, one of 15lbs 4oz and his largest catch equaled 21lbs 10oz using sweetcorn over megabaits black crab pellet. Exeter angler Roger Bowskill tempted 7 commons from the top of right hand bank, his best catch scaling 17lbs.  Weston supermare angler Colin Fowler banked 4 fish from 3rd swim on right hand bank and Bideford angler Daniel Scott hooked 4 commons to 19lbs 6oz.

In the top lake Paignton angler Tony Chown fished in the deepest water near the dam and reported an active session with 8 fish.  His catches included an 11lbs mirror and 7 common carp including doubles of 15lbs 12oz and 14lbs 8oz.

Tuesday 4th December 2007

Just to let everyone know that Creedy will be closing for this season at 11pm on 1st January so still ample time to wet those rods again, especially in this relatively mild weather.  Some good fish out on the bank this past week including a big mirror carp.  Still catches seem to be plucked from all three  banks of the main bank with surprisingly some good action amongst the shallows at the top of the right hand bank.  The most productive time slot seems to be between 4pm and 6.30pm this past week in the main lake but up in the top lake you can expect consistent action throughout the day with the deeper waters producing well.

Heaviest catch for the week was by Newton Abbott's John Fenlon who fished the boathouse bank amongst the deeper waters.  After a quiet portion of the day he first banked a nice 23lbs common which he was well pleased with.  He did however then improve on that when he landed a cracking 28lbs 8oz mirror carp which really made him smile. John really has put in the hours recently but it has kindly paid off as he has had an impressive number of big fish over the last two to three months.   largest common for the week tipped the scales to 23lbs 8oz and was banked by Crediton's Mike Izzard whilst fishing midway on the far bank.  Mike also banked another 3 fish during that session.  Picture below:

Taunton web designer Clive Franklin came close with his catch  when he fished the far bank also. He completed his session with a total of 4 fish, topping his bag was a chunky 23lbs 7oz specimen common carp.. Bow angler Roger Hole  fished the top of right hand bank and after spotting some larger specimens close in the margins Roger moved in on the fish.  The change of swim was well rewarded when firstly he hooked a 22lbs 4oz and followed that with a 22lbs 7oz, both his catches being commons. Alan Hull from Copplestone dropped in at the first swim on the right hand bank and was please with his pair of commons which scaled 18lbs and 21lbs 2oz. Newton Abbott's Geoff Waring had largest bag out of the main lake with 7 fish all of which were double figures.  Topping his bag was a 22lbs common followed by an 18lbs, two of 17lbs, a pair of 15's and a 10pounder. Junior angler Lloyd Hobbs of Team Megabaits banked a 19lbs 2oz from deeper waters whilst fishing the boathouse bait, tempting his catch with the Black Crab flavor.  Taunton tiler John Keirle also reported a good result on Megabaits banking three good fish including a 19lb s1oz, an 18lbs 2oz and one of 14lbs , John also lost 4 fish that session.    Justin Hooper fished Crab and Jaffa flavor 18mm glugged boillies and banked just the one decent catch which weighed in at 19lbs 10oz.  Six year old Jack Grinney out fished his dad Wayne when he banked two fish 1/3 way up on the right hand bank.  First Jack banked a common of 10lbs and followed that with a 16lbs common - Dad apparently blanked!!!

Pictured below is Taunton's Rory McMakin with his recent catch (7.11.07), a cracking 28lbs 8oz mirror carp.

In the top lake Paignton angler Tony Chown had a very prolific day banking a total of 13 fish - largest bag overall for the week.  His catches included commons of 9lbs, 11lbs 12oz and topping his fish was a 15lbs 4oz specimen.

The action continues at Creedy amid the lower temperatures and colder winds but generally catch numbers are down, but not surprisingly with the present weather.  The water color had virtually cleared but is now beginning to color up again and catches have been coming from mainly the mid to deeper regions.

Tuesday 13th November 2007

A chilly end to the past weeks fishing with the start of some morning ground frost and colder winds. This has inevitably had a dampening effect on the number of fish coming out but still there have been some good sized specimens delivered on the mat.

  Tuesday 30th October 2007

An exciting week's for Creedy especially with the larger specimens with the heaviest common of the year being banked this past week.  All banks have been fishing well with  both the mid and deeper waters seem to be holding the volume of the stock. Strangely there has not been a lot of visible movement on the surface, just the sporadic fish jumping and churning up the bottom.  The top lake has seen some good action with again the mid to deeper waters producing better, very little fish spotted in the shallows amongst the weed beds.

Heaviest common at Creedy this season was banked by holiday guest Nathan Bird of Gloucester who was on a short break.  His specimen fish of 29lbs 2oz was tempted mid water just past the boathouse on the left hand bank with the latest Billett's boillies (plum/peach with secret agent). That particular day session 14 year old Nathan banked 5 commons but over his 4 day sessions he hooked a total of 278lbs of fish including 4 20pounders, a pair of 18's and numerous double figure sized carp.  Not bad considering Nathan has only been carp fishing for 6 months now and was encouraged by his father Chris.  Chris himself only recently back into fishing put up a good contest for Nathan and over the 4 sessions he hooked a total of 255lbs of fish with 3 lumps over 20lbs (heaviest of 23lbs 5oz)  a pair of 19lbs, and numerous other doubles.  Chris also banked heaviest green tench for the week weighing 6lbs exactly (heaviest tench for the week).  PICTURE

He now refers to Creedy as "Lake of Dreams" - that's a hard one to maintain!!.  A return to Creedy for Exeter's Martin Cox who chose to fish the far bank.  He reported it was good to be back, especially as he had caught 7 good fish including a pair of 23's (23lbs 12oz, 23lbs 4oz), one of 22lbs 12oz, and one's of 12lbs, 14lbs, 15lbs and 17lbs.  Cullompton's Jon Soames fished the far bank and reported a 5 fish bag with all good high doubles.  Topping his catches was a 23lbs common, followed by a 22lbs 12oz, a 19lbs 10oz, one of 17lbs 13oz and finally one of 16lbs 12oz.  Crediton's Mike Izzard has now surpassed his last year record for no of 20's out in one season.   He landed 7 fish during one session topped by a 24lbs 8oz common and with 6 other doubles to 18lbs 6oz.  Barnstaple angler Iain Laird fished adjacent to the boathouse and landed 4 good fish on Billetts latest boillies.  At the top of Iain's catches was a 21lbs 12oz, followed by on of 17lbs 11oz, a 16lbs 12oz and one of 16lbs 2oz.  His angling companion Chris Fellows shared the bait and had a great day, hooking his new personal best catch, a common of 20lbs 5oz along with one of 14lbs 1oz.  All the way from Dover, Anthony Rutter thought the journey was well worth it as he achieved his new p.b. fish scaling 17lbs 3oz, he also witnessed the big catch wtih Nathan Bird.    Angler Ben Spague was well pleased with his 21lbs common which gave him a new personal best catch.  Bow angler Darren Reynolds hooked 4 commons all good sized fish including a 23lbs 2oz and an 18lbs from the far bank mid way along.  Christow farrier Gareth Simpson had a good session from the first swim on right hand bank with a total of 8 fish topped by a 21lbs specimen. Tuesday 16th October 2007

Fishing form is good at present, possibly helped by the static temperatures and lack of night frosts.  There have been some larger specimens out this week and generally more action on all rods present.  There seems to be copious amounts of  leaves rapidly shedding which is adding some good cover to the surface, the fish certainly seem  to be shading underneath and mooching amongst them for the moment.

In the main lake a - cracking weeks fishing with most action coming on ledger tactics from the mid water depths this past week.  Heaviest specimen common for the week scaled 26lbs 4oz and was banked by Newton Abbott's Andy Bollard.  This catch provided him with a new personal best fish and was accompanied by 4 other commons.  His 7 year old son Sam however really put Andy under pressure.  Firstly banking a 20lbs 8oz common and the followed by a 23lbs common which also gave him a new personal best catch.  Sam also banked 5 small commons, both father and son fished 2/3 way up on right hand bank.  Minehead angler Kevin Sully also hooked himself a new personal best catch when he landed his 24lbs common along with a low double figure when he fished 2/3 way on left hand bank.   Tiverton angler Myles Gerrard was well pleased with his single fish, a lovely 24lbs 12oz specimen  common tempted from the left hand bank. This week the weather has been very changeable and coupled with the high pressure the fishing has been somewhat mixed.  The main lake has not been too busy with the majority of anglers fishing using ledger tactics and no-one trying surface tactics. Water color is improving with some good color at the top of the inlet of the right hand bank and some of the larger specimens spotted at that end of the lake.  The top lake is still producing some good sport with carp up to 12lbs 6oz reported, tempted out from the edge of the lilly pads in mid water.

Tuesday 18th September 2007

The past fortnight has been a little slower but over the weekend things have begun to improve with more fish out and larger bag catches in general.  There are still many fish on or near the surface of the water and as the leaves are beginning to fall it's proving a great retreat.  All banks have produced, possibly the mid waters being slightly more productive.

Heaviest fish for the fortnight was banked by Crediton's Stuart Greenslade when he hooked and landed his specimen common of 25lbs 12oz. Stuart's big catch gave him a new personal best and well deserved catch this season, just one of 5 fish he banked over the weekend.  Happy Days Stuart recorded, especially as he is returning abroad shortly for another stint of duty.  Poughill angler Micky Palmer also was well pleased when he landed a specimen common tipping the scales to 25lbs exactly.  Micky was fishing towards the top of the left hand bank amongst mid water depths and also tempted an 18lbs common and two singles.  Tiverton's Darren Short reported a good session of 9 fish topped with a 24lbs 4oz common and followed by a 20lbs specimen.  Darren also hooked commons of 18lbs 4oz, 16lbs 4oz, 12lbs 8oz and 4 single figure commons around 7lbs. Cornish angler Oliver Evans from Pentewan  reported another good session as he continues a prolific season.  Topping his 6 fish bag of all commons was one of 23lbs exactly.   Oliver also landed 3 doubles to 17lbs and a pair of single figure carp.  Mr C. Days of Bridgwater banked three good fish, firstly a 23lbs common, followed with a 21lbs  and finally a 15pounder.  Allan Hull of Copplestone fished the first swim on right hand bank and successfully landed a 22lbs common along with a 13lbs 8oz and a pair of eels to 3lbs. Stephen Hall of Dulford had an enjoyable day  when he landed a 20lbs common along with a 17pounder and one of 7lbs with gave him a great fight. All his fish were caught using pellet and 14mm boillies presented in p.v.a. bags on the ledger. Lawrence Neale fished Sx boillies and tempted 5 commons during one session, his heaviest pair scaled 19lbs and 17lbs 4oz.  During another session Lawrence banked 3 fish up to 19lbs exactly and he also landed heaveist mirror carp for the fortnight of 16lbs 12oz.  Mr M Hyde hooked two comons up to 18lbs, Copplestone's Phil Jefferies banked a pair of doubles, Mr V. Tuesday 4th September 2007

This week has been Mike Izzard's luckiest, topping the Creedy news with his new personal best catch, a specimen mirror carp scaling 27lbs 8oz.  The Crediton angler did some stalking with a float rod on the far bank and tempted his specimen off the surface.  Picture below:

Olly Ousely from Exeter also tempted a good mirror carp during  day session at Creedy, his catch weighing 20lbs 8oz.  His twin brother, Tom, not to be outdone, also caught a large one, a common carp of just over 20lbs. Barnstaple angler Chris Bissett fished on the boathouse bank and tempted 4 fish, mainly off the surface, with his 23lbs10oz common being his largest catch -  heaviest common carp for the week. Tuesday 29th August 2007

This weeks fishing form has been slightly better than before with some evenings the fish going pretty manic for the food.  All banks have been productive but possibly more action from the mid water depths just recently.  The top lake is still producing some good sport with the lily pad areas being a favorite. Jack Button from Kent banked heaviest mirror carp for the week when he landed a 23lbs 12oz specimen.  Jack ledgered with squid and octopus boillies.  Heaviest common for the week was by Chris Coutts of Tiverton with his 24lbs specimen common catch giving him a new personal best catch.  Crediton's Mike Izzard reported a good session when he bagged a total of 11 fish.  His catches, all double figures, ranged from 10lbs up to 24lbs  ( also including a 23lbs 2oz specimen) and gave a total bag weight of over 181lbs of fish. Pictured below are the top two of his day.

Holiday guest Wayne Ellor banked a lovely 21lbs 8oz common during one of his sessions this past week.  Wayne fished Billetts boillies and landed a total of 5 fish that day.  During another session Wayne tempted a nice 19lbs mirror carp along with a double figure common and a tench.  Cullompton's Jonathan Soanes banked just the two fish, a pair of doubles up to 21lbs 12oz this past week.  Kingskerswell angler Dave Roberts chose to fish the boathouse bank and used surface tactics to attract 2 commons of 12lbs and 21lbs exactly. David Hill of Crediton reported heaviest tench for the week scaling 6lbs.  David also banked tendh of 5lbs , 5lbs 4oz along with 4 commons topped with a pair of 17pounders.  Paignton angler Mark Owen fished a mixture of baits on the ledger and on the surface to hook 7 commons in total.  His catches ranged from 10lbs up to 19lbs 6oz and amassed to just over 107lbs of fish. Steve and Dave Cooper of Derby fished corn and their best day last week was banking 10 commons between them topped by a pair of 20's = 20lbs 5oz and 20lbs 7oz.  They also had a lovely 18lbs 12oz specimen.  During another session they had a 12 fish day between them up to 14lbs 2oz.  Torrington angler S. Gardiner reported largest bag for the week of 15 fish in total.  The bag comprised of 12 single figures, one of 10lbs, one of 15 and one scaling 20lbs 2oz. Bridgwater angler Ryan Knight banked a pair of commons up to 18lbs whilst fishing at the top of right hand bank and junior angler Jamie Pike landed a 16lbs common from the top of the right hand bank fishing the shallows.

Below is a picture from earlier on in the season from North Devon angler Steve Thorne when he hooked this 28lbs 2oz common carp catch

Tuesday 21st August 2007

The main lake has been a little quieter this past week.  The majority of anglers are still using ledger tactics with a variety of baits.  Most popular seem to be boillies fished in conjunction with  a bed of mixed pellets. There are several larger specimens visible on the surface but perhaps not as many as before.  The top lake continues to provide some more consistent action, well worth it for those who venture up that far.

Heaviest common for the week was banked by Exeter's  Lee Hardy when he hooked his 27lbs 2oz. With a total of 18 fish Lee also banked heaviest mirror of 24lbs 14oz and also a 22lbs 10oz.  Fellow Exeter angler Jason Harvey banked a specimen common of 25lbs 14oz along with a 19lbs and a pair of mirror carp up to 15lbs 6oz.  Both anglers were fishing in the first swim on the right hand bank.   Max Keate scooped himself a new personal best catch when he hooked into his 27lbs specimen common whilst fishing adjacent to the old boathouse on the left hand bank.  Max tempted his catch after placing his bait to the right of the central island amid deeper waters.   Copplestone postman Phil Jefferies had a plump common this week when he landed his 22lbs 12oz common carp caught from the left hand bank. Crediton angler Mike Izzard banked another 20 pounder this week adding to his impressive season.  Mike fished at the top of the right hand bank and his bag totaled 8 commons.  Other catches included 6 double figure commons up to 17lbs 2oz and a 10lbs mirror. His total bag weight amounted to just over 109lbs of fish.  Pictured below is his 20lbs 12oz catch.

Stockport angler Wayne Ellor banked a 20lbs 8oz common along with a single figure during an evening session.  Exminster angler Daniel Price landed a pair of good doubles best weighing 17lbs 8oz.  Derby anglers, father and son duo, Steve and Dave Cooper hooked 11 fish between them up to 18lbs 4oz from the main lake.  Weston super mare anlger Dan Speakman tempted 3 double figure carp including a 14lbs 9oz mirror along with an 18lbs 11oz and a 12lbs 13oz common. Poole angler Alan Sandford came to fish at Creedy over 4 days and ended his stay with 15 fish including several mid double figures up to 16lbs 2oz.

Pictured below is Mark Lamude of Newton Abbott with his catch of this week, a beautifully proportioned 23lbs 9oz common carp.

Paul Baker of New Buildings near Sandford fished midway on the right hand bank and banked 8 fish during his day session.  Holiday guest Alan Thorpe chose to fish on the shelf swim of the far bank and tempted an 18lbs 5oz common from the tree overhang area in the margins.

Pictured below is, the soon to be 7 year old, from Kingsteignton, Sam Kemble with his monster catch of last week.  Sam did actually manage to hold his catch briefly to have his photo taken by another angler on the bank. A very proud moment.

31st July - 7th August

Tony Hicks from Hatherleigh hooked heaviest specimen for the week, a lovely looking common which tipped the scales to 25lbs exactly.  Tony, a builder by trade, chose to fish up the quiet arm at the top of the left hand bank amid shallow waters and used surface tactics to tempt his specimen.  Newton Abbott's Stephen Hird came close with his catch when he hooked into a 24lbs 1oz specimen whilst fishing on the far bank ledgering into mid water depths.  Stephen also banked an 18lbs 2oz common, 6 singles to 8lbs 12oz,  and a mirror of 18lbs 4oz- heaviest mirror carp,  and a green tench.  Stephen's son Michael had a total of 7 fish including 6 double figures topped by a pair of 18's - heaviest of 18lbs 12oz.  Ben Sprague fished boillies to tempt just the one catch, a 21lbs common.  Plymouth angler Gary Beasley hooked himself a new personal best catch when he landed his 21lbs 2oz common along with one of 16lbs 3oz when he used ledger tactics.  Ryan Knight of Bridgwater also ledgered and tempted a common of 22lbs 2oz, Londoner Pete Overy banked a 19lbs 13oz common together with largest ghost carp this season and a new record with his 8lbs 10oz specimen. 7th - 14th August

Largest specimen for this week was banked by Exeter's Chris Tape when he fished the 3rd swim on the right hand bank using surface tactics.  Chris first tempted a 23lbs common with chum mixer, then he tempted a 24lbs sepcimen, all his 7 fish were just by free lining with no float or weight.  Crediton's Mike Izzard fished at the top of the right hand bank and fishished his session hooking a total of 5 fish up to 23lbs 8oz.  PICTURE

Andrea Izzard decided to try her hand at fishing, taught by her husband Mike.  She banked two doubles setting herself 2 new personal best catches, firstly a common of 10lbs 6oz and followed shortly by a slightly larger specimen of 11lbs exactly.  Fair competition and a good achievement for a novice anger.   PICTURE

Sam Kemble certainly is a name to look out for.  The 6 year old from Kingsteignton fished with his father, Andy Bollard along the right hand bank.  Slotting in together in the 5th swim on the right hand bank, Andy decided to shut his eyes for 5 minutes.  Sam decided to recast his rod as he was not getting much action at that point when he suddenly hooked into a 22lbs 8oz specimen common.  Sam managed to play his catch and get it in the net single handedly, he did however need a hand to place it on the mat and unfortunately it was too heavy for him to pick up.  Here is a picture of Sam with his new personal best catch, a great early birthday present as he will be 7 soon - on 6th September.

Copplestone's Vic Cranfield banked a good fish when he hooked into a 23lbs 2oz specimen common whilst fishing ledger tactics 3/4 way up on the left hand bank. Tuesday 31st July 2007

A mixed week but finally the weather beginning to improve and hopefully will be static for the short term.  A few fish have been spawning a little but apart from that the majority of the stock seem visible on or near the surface, congregating in mid to deeper waters.  Largest fish out from the main lake this week was by Barnstaple angler Pete Hall with his 21lbs 12oz specimen amongst a 4 fish bag.  Pete fished near the boathouse on the left hand bank fishing next to his son, Adam who also reported a good day with 4 doubles up to 17lbs 6oz (just short of his personal best fish).  Adam did set himself a new personal best catch earlier in the week when he banked 4 doubles when he fished on the right hand bank with a 17lbs 7oz giving him a best specimen catch.  Pentewan angler Oliver Evans couldn't resist visiting Creedy again after his recent success and again reported a very good session.  Fristly Oliver banked 3 single figures followed by a 10lbs 14 and finally a 21lbs 2oz common carp - a great day in the end he mentioned.  Darren Rollings from Taunton had largest bag of 9 fish including 8 commons up to 20lbs 2oz along with a 2lbs 5oz green tench.  Crediton's Mike Izzard fished at the top of right hand bank and along on the shelf swim on the far bank.  In total Mike banked 6  fish topped by a 20lbs 2oz common carp.  Mike also hooked 4 low double figure common carp along with a tench. Tiverton's Wayne Richards fished the far bank and landed a 16lbs mirror carp along with a single figure common.   Kevin Leighton and Paul Hammerton had a first ever visit to Creedy down from Northants.  They fished amid shallower waters at the top of left hand bank and Kevin produced a personal best catch when he landed a 16lbs 5oz specimen along with 5 other commons whilst Paul landed 7 fish including 5 commons up to 17lbs 15oz.  Both anglers fished off the bottom using ledger tactics.

Tuesday 24th July 2007

Water colour has changed this past week going from greenish back to muddy brown which is always a good sign.  Fishing form has been mixed with some very active days with hectic buzzers and there have also been some slower days with subdued activity.  Action has been regular over all three banks with most anglers fishing out in the mid water depths and not trying the margins, some good sized bags of up to 15 fish reported out from the main lake.  There has been some more spawning activity up in the top lake amongst the shallower marginal areas and amongst the lillypad growths. The surface has been quite productive as there are still many of the stock just leisurely basking on or near the surface.

Out from the main lake:  Heaviest fish out was Chris Bissett's catch, a specimen 24lbs 12oz common.  The Barnstaple angler fished on the boathouse  bank and banked a total of 15 fish although he did also lose 7 others, many of his catches were tempted off the surface.  North Tawton angler Simon Quick had a good day from the right hand bank when he landed a total of 12 fish with his best catch tipping the scales to 23lbs 7oz.

Pictured below is Kevin Richards, another North Tawton angler, with his 22lbs 14oz which was caught recently.  Kevin tempted his catch with some fishy flavor boillies along with pellets, he certainly seems to know a thing or two about fishing as by day he works in Exeter Angling Centre in  Symthen Street, Exeter.

Bridgewater angler Adrian Lazarus had a return visit to Creedy and was well pleased with his 3 catches when he fished at the top of the left hand bank amid shallower water.  Firstly he banked a 13lbs 8oz, followed by a 19lbs and lastly a 21lbs common.  Pictures below of the larger catches

Barnstaple angler Damien Dayman lost 6 fish but managed to bank a total of 9 fish during his session with his heaviest specmen scaling 20lbs 8oz.  John Grayling from North Tawton banked himself a new personal best catch amid best mixed bag for the week after he tempted a 21lbs 14oz common. John also banked a 16lbs 8oz mirror carp, a 10lbs common, a single figure common and a 4lbs 8oz green tench. Taunton angler Glen Cornish hooked 4 commons up to 17lbs 8oz when fishing adjacent to the boathouse.  Barnstaple's Ian Laird fished the shelf swim on the far bank and caught his first ever golden tench of 2lbs 8oz followed by a larger specimen of 3lbs 5oz.  Ian also hooked 10 commons (including 5 doubles) up to 15lbs 4oz.  He was very happy with his day, describing his day as a red letter day.  Tiverton's Craig Wonnacott fished off the surface and on the ledger mid way on the far bank and finished his session with a total of 7 commons.  Craig's heaviest catch weighed 18lbs 6oz and all of his catches were in double figures. Bristol's John Mulford banked just the one catch, a common carp  of 19lbs exactly. Heaviest mirror carp for the week weighed 20lbs 6oz and was banked by Exeter's R. Moore.  Mr Moore fished 3/4 way up on right hand bank and tempted a common of 13lbs 2oz using his small pop-up boillies on the surface.  A mirror carp of 19lbs 7oz and was banked by Exeter's Ben Iremonger who also landed a single figure common.

Pictured below is St Austell angler Oliver Evans with his new personal best catch of 25lbs 2oz of last week.

In the top lake heaviest catch out for the week was a 14lbs specimen banked by holiday guest  Paul Brennan.  Mike Ward had largest bag out from the top lake of 11 fish during one session using both ledger and surface tactics.

TUESDAY 17th July 2007

The fish continue to bite at Creedy both from off the surface and from the bottom on the ledger.  The days have varied somewhat in form with some days proving quite challenging and other days seemingly easier.  The marginal swims in the corners of the main lake seem to be able to tempt some catches regularly using the ledger whilst the surface catches seem to be from mid water depths.  Heaviest catch for the week was by Barnstaple angler Chris Bissett with his 25lbs 10oz common specimen along with a 17 pounder and a pair of singles.  Cornwall angler Oliver Evans set himself a new personal best catch when he hooked his 25lbs 2oz common whilst fishing from the far bank.  The Pentewan angler (near St Austell) freelined dog biscuits on the surface.  He also hooked a 20lbs 8oz common,, one of 16lbs 10oz, a 15lbs 2oz, three low doubles and a single figure all of which were commons and gave a total bag weight of over 104lbs of fish.  His fellow angling companion Mike Body also of St. Austell also banked himself a new personal best fish when he landed his 23lbs 1oz common amid a 4 fish bag.  Copplestone angler Danny Knight hooked himself a new personal best catch when he successfully landed a 23lbs 14oz common.  Danny, a local mechanic, fished at the top of right hand bank using his own home made boillies. Picture below:

Largest bag for the week was banked by Exmouth angler Sam Lawrence who had 23 carp in total from both the surface and off the ledger up to 17lbs,  Sam reported that he also lost 9 fish.  Crediton angler Wayne Grinney  banked a grand total of 20 fish up to 19lbs 4oz on Billetts boillies whilst his 4 year old son Jack set himself a new personal best fish when he hooked a 16lbs common.  Fellow kirtonian Paul Gribble  banked  a total of 18 fish, his catches were all tempted by the latest Billett's crayfish baits and were topped by a 19lbs specimen.  Crediton's Mike Izzard continues a good season with a 12 fish day session all of which were double figures topped with a 20lbs 5oz specimen.  His other catches  ranged from 10lbs to 17lbs and compounded to a bag weight of 173lbs of  heaviest bag for the week. Copplestone's Phil Jefferies banked a 19lbs 12oz specimen from the top of left hand bank, G Lindlay of Minehead hooked a new personal best catch of 18lbs 8oz from the third swim on the right hand bank.  Jonathan Soanes of Cullompton hooked 10 fish 8 of which wer double figures, his top three fish scaling 19lbs 11oz, 18lbs 13oz and 18lbs 12oz respectively.  Cullompton angler Tim Surridge fished the far bank landing 5 fish to 16lbs 5oz and Mr L and fMr M Marchant between them banked 7 common carp up to 17lbs and had heaviest tench for the week scaling 5lbs.

Action at Creedy persists with 18 x 20 pounders out this past week, a few of those big catches off the surface but the ledger activity is now picking up again and the marginal waters are most productive.  Popular baits include the latest Billetts crayfish boillies, pineapple boillies fished in conjunction with halibut or trout pellets.  Surface tactics are still free lining as opposed to using a bubble float, dog biscuit and floating / pop-up boilies the popular choice.

Heaviest catch for the week was by Rob Crabbe who set himself a new personal best catch when he landed his recent specimen, a 25lbs common carp.  The Exeter angler also banked commons of 15lbs and a pair of 8lbs, all commons.  Bristol angler Mike Pratt of Bristol had his best ever day at carping when he came to Creedy the past week.  Fishing over the far bank, Mike netted a 5 fish catch of all commons scaling 24lbs , 22lbs , 21lbs , 19lbs and one of 17lbs.  His nephew, fellow Bristonian Mark Butcher also reported a good day session when he fished tigernut boillies along with halibut pellets.  His catches included commons of 21lbs , 17lbs and 15lbs, a mirror carp for the week weighing 19lbs and a 4lbs 8oz green tench.  Newton Abbott's Michael Hird recorded a 23lbs 12oz common along with another good specimen common of 21lbs 5oz and a pair of low doubles. Stephen Hird , his father, also hooked 4 good double figure commons, the top two catches being 18lbs 15oz and 17lbs 3oz.  Kevin Richards of Bow reported a new personal best catch amongst an 11 fish bag including a new personal best when he hooked a 22lbs 14oz specimen common.  Kevin also had 2 doubles to 18lbs 2oz and 9 single figures whilst fishing 1/2 way up right hand bank.  Tiverton's Darren Short also reported his best day at Creedy when he chose to fish the far bank.  All his 12 catches were commons with his top two catches being 20lb s4oz and 18lbs 8oz giving a total bag weight of over 153lbs of fish.  Bridgewater angler Ian MaCready reported joint largest bag of 29 fish with many of those being double figures including three 20's scaling 20lbs, 21lbs 1oz and 22lbs 1oz, probably over 300lbs of fish - unfortunately not all his catches were listed.  Ian fished on that occasion beside the boathouse on the left hand bank. Taunton angler Glen Cornish also reported a session with 29 fish with 26 commons up to 16lbs 10oz, a single figure mirror carp and a tench  of 5lbs 5oz. Crediton's Chris Hill reported a 16 fish bag day session with a good brace to top his catches including heaviest mirror carp for the week scaling 20lbs 1oz along with a common of 21lbs 2oz. Minehead junior Tom McGowan outfished his dad Dave on a recent visit to Creedy.  They both fished at the top of the left hand bank near the shallow finger end and Tom ended his session with a total of 16 fish including a 21lbs specimen which was equal to his existing personal best catch.  The majority of his fish were single figures but also there were 3 upper doubles. Cullompton's Tim Surridge kept hooking the fish when he fished 3/4 way up on the left hand bank and ended his session with 17 fish in total all of which were commons heaviest being 19lbs 3oz. Dave McGowan produced a 5 fish bag and topping his catches was a 19lbs 2oz together with one of 18lbs and a pair of 15's.  Les Harris of Kenton reported a new personal best when he weighed his one catch but was well pleased when the scales recorded 22lbs exactly. Newton Abbott's Charlie Rorke reported a 4 fish session with a 23lb s7oz, 17lbs 2oz, 15lbs 8oz and one of 10lbs 8oz.  Taunton's Glen Cornish fished 1/2 way up on left hand bank.  Heaviest tench for the week was banked by Mike Gasson who landed his 5lbs 9oz specimen along with 3 single figure commons.

The top lake has provided some good sport recently with carp up to 14lbs with many single figures reported.

New record catch at Creedy for Cullompton angler Jonathan Soanes this past week when he banked 8 x 20pounders during one day session whilst fishing mid way on the far bank. Previously the record had been 6 x 20's during one session but that day Jonathan just kept catching.  Topping his bag was a whopping 28lbs 12oz common (setting a new p.b. surface record), along with 26lbs 11oz,23lbs 12oz, 23lbs 5oz, 22lbs 5oz, 21lbs 11oz, 20lbs 11oz along with a 24lbs 12oz mirror carp - taking heaviest common and heaviest mirror carp for the week amid the days bag.  Also Jonathan hooked a pair of 19lbs, 4 x 18lbs , a pair of 17's, one of 16lbs, 15lbs, a pair of 14's, a pair of 12's, one of 11 and three singles.  The grand total of fish weight during his session amounted to just over 461lbs of fish - a new lake record that will be very difficult to better!. Jonathan hooked in total 26 fish with 25 of those catches tempted off the surface with dog biscuit & floating boillies and just the one catch using ledger tactics - all in cloudy weather & showers.  Luckily he has been on holiday this week and has tried his luck since another two sessions, firstly having a total of 19 fish including 5 x 20pounders along with all other double figure specimens ( a combined bag weight of just over 357lbs of fish.  His top five fish that day were a 25lbs 10oz, a 23lbs 9oz, a 22lbs 7oz, a 21lbs 2oz and a 20lbs 4oz.   On the next occasion he landed 21 fish with 4 x 20 pounders (best of 24lbs 12oz) along with 16 double figure commons and a 13lbs mirror carp, certainly an unforgettable week Pictured below is Jonathan with a recent 25lbs specimen common of last week.

Tuesday 26th June 2007

A good week's fishing  probably due to the large amount of rain we have been experiencing.  Still several catches have been tempted off the surface using free lining tactics but the ledger baits have also been very productive this past week with generally some larger bags of fish out.  Heaviest fish out for the week was a 29lbs 4oz mirror carp which was tempted off the surface by Roger Bowskill.  The Exeter angler fished mid way on the far bank amid mid water open space and also used ledger baits to bank commons of 16lbs and 14lbs respectively.  Preston holiday maker Shaun Casson fished at the top of left hand bank amid shallow waters and tempted a 21lbs common pictured below:

Shaun also tempted a good pair of mirror carp scaling 18lbs 2oz and 16lbs 4oz, both pictured below:

Plymouth angler John Heath tempted 7 commons using a mixture of maggot and pepperami whilst fishing at the top of left hand bank, his catches up to 22lbs 8oz.  Crediton's Mike Izzard continues a very consistent season and fished two sessions during the past week.  On the first occasion Miike  banked 9 commons topped by a 20lbs 8oz along with a 20lbs and 7 other good doubles.  On the next day session Mike landed 8 fish, again all double figured commons topped by a pair of 23lbs.  Pictures of the 23lbs below:

Tuesday 19th June 2007

Consistent fishing this past week with the margins remaining a favorite to tempt the carp as are surface tactics.  There are many fish visible in the shallow fingers in the corners but tempting them to feed seems harder than it first seems.  Heaviest fish for the week was by Okehampton angler Chris Ryan who tempted his 23lbs 8oz specimen whilst freelining dog biscuit on the surface.  Weston super Mare angler Mike Cuff also used the same method and banked 4 doubles during a 4hr session p to 22lbs 12oz. Bideford angler Chris Bissett spent father's day on the bank at Creedy and gave himself a nice present - a new personal best mirror carp.  The painter & decorator had in total 15 fish which was largest bag for the week, all of which were double figure commons ranging from 14lbs up to 19lbs. He also had a cracking mirror carp of 22lbs 12oz which gave him a new personal best mirror carp catch.

Crediton's Mike Izzard reported a 10 fish bag with 7 double figure commons up to 18lbs 8oz along with 3 mirror carp up to 20lbs 8oz - pictured below:

His bag was tempted using both ledger and surface tactics and in total the combined fish weight was just over 164lbs.  Guy Lavery of Tiverton had his return trip to Creedy after an absence of 9 years and gave himself a new personal best common scaling 20lbs 15oz.  Guy fished at the top of the right hand bank amid shallower waters and also banked a 4lbs 11oz green tench.  His partner Amy Broadway also hooked herself a new personal best catch when she tempted a 17lbs 10oz common along with a single of 5lbs.  Guy is pictured below with both the catches:

Tuesday 12th June 2007

Some larger bags of fish out from both the main and the top lake this past week which hopefully indicates that the majority of fish are back on the feed post spawning.  There have been fish out from all three main lake banks but still the margins and shallow waters are a fairly safe bet at the moment for tempting some catches.  Surface tactics seem to be increasingly popular as anglers realize that it is well worth persevering with this method. Popular baits are fishy flavor boillies fished in conjunction with a pellet assortment, maggots and surface dog biscuits or pop up boillies.

Largest bag and heaviest fish for the week was by Cullompton's Jonathan Soanes who is continuing a very productive season.  Jon chose to fish the far bank mid way and ended his session with 16 fish in total.  Jon's tactics were mainly leger but used one rod fishing the surface from where he tempted his largest specimen commons - one scaling 25lbs 12oz and one of 25lbs exactly, along with a green tench! - something I have never heard of before as they are classic bottom feeders.  From the leger the catches included a 19lbs 12oz, an 18lbs 11oz, an 18lbs 8oz, three 17pounders, a pair of 16's, a pair of 14's, one single of 7lbs 10oz and a pair of tench.  His total bag weight amassed to 235lbs of fish which gave him his best session at Creedy this season.  Taunton's Glen Cornish tempted 12 fish which were all double figures. Topping his bag was a specimen common of 22lbs 12oz along with 10 other doubles and a lovely 20lbs 2oz mirror carp (heaviest of the week).  Glen's combined bag weight was 181lbs of fish and he fished adjacent to the boathouse on the left hand bank.  Tavistock angler Kyle Waterhouse banked a total of 14 fish, all commons whilst fishing the first swim on right hand bank, his catches included three 16's, a pair of 13's, a pair of 12's and 7 singles. Weston Super Mare's Mike Cuff had another good day surface fishing with 10 double figure carp to 21lbs 4oz using dog biscuit to tempt his catches.  Exeter angler Steve Jarman fished 2/3 way up on left hand bank and hooked a total of 13 fish up to 20lbs 6oz.  Bideford angler Chris Bissett fished along the boathouse bank and landed 9 good sized commons topped with a 22lbs 10oz.  Other fish included a 21lbs, a 19lbs 14oz, a 19lbs 12oz, one of 19lbs 5oz and four other low doubles, a combined fish weight of 178lbs. During another session Chris hooked 5 commons ranging from 12lbs  up to 21lbs. Newton Abbott's Michael Hird fished the far bank and landed 8 good doubles with his heaviest tipping the scaled to 20lbs 6oz also including three 18 pounders.  Paignton angler Mark Owen fished 3/4 way up the right hand bank and had 5 fish three of which were doubles the best of 19lbs 4oz along with a 16lbs 8oz mirror carp.   Gerry McAllen of Okehampton banked a 22lbs 6oz common along with a 17lbs 4oz. Taunton's Chris Meikle banked a total of 9 fish including a new personal best tench which measured 7lbs exactly (heaviest tench for the week), other fish included a pair of 17 pounders.

In the top lake Aaron Day of Tiverton used floaters off the surface to tempt heaviest fish out this season, a common carp of 18lbs exactly and also banked commons of 10lbs and 11lbs. Mark Edwards reported heaviest tench out from the top lake of 3lbs along with carp to 10lbs 4oz and Mick Harris landed a 10lbs 8oz common.

5th June 2007

Hopefully the last of the spawning occurred last Friday with the remaining larger specimens that were waiting for the right water conditions.  The fishing has been fairly consistent this past week with many of the stock visible in the upper layer on the main lake making surface tactics favorable and very rewarding for those who have the patience. For ledger tactics the margins seem to be the most attractive option, especially for Cullompton angler Jonathan Soanes who banked 14 commons during one session whilst fishing at the top of the left hand bank. Topping Jonathan's bag was a 24lbs 11oz common (heaviest common carp) along with a 20lbs 4oz, one of 19lbs 6oz, a 17lbs 7oz, three mid doubles and a pair of single figures as well as losing three fish. Holiday guest Paul Noakes tempted heaviest mirror carp for the week during his stay with a specimen scaling 20lbs 2oz. Other catches included commons of 20lbs 9oz and a 17lbs mirror carp.  His son Chris also had some success  with some good upper double figure commons is best fish weighing 19lbs 4oz. Tiverton's Jeff Baggs chose to fish on the point swim on the far bank and enjoyed some hard fighting action.  He hooked a 22lbs 8oz common and one of 18lbs 8oz. Exeter angler Daniel Cordey ledgered boillies from the far bank into mid waters banking commons of 21lbs 8oz, 17lbs  and 14lbs 5oz. Westward Ho angler Kevin Mc Carthy chose the first swim on right hand bank amid shallower waters and finished his session with a total of 7 fish the best catch being 17lbs 8oz using boillies.  Exeter's Chris Tape free lined dog biscuits and had 3 commons to 18lbs. Tiverton's Tim Penney fished Creedy for the first time and banked a pair of commons up to 21lbs exactly.  Bideford's Ricky Yeo had a 13 fish bag with 10 commons (4 which were double figures up to 15lbs), an eel and a pair of tench to 5lbs - heaviest tench for the week. Taunton angler Glen Cornish tempted 4 commons up to 19lbs 7oz and his 13year old son Adam who fished nearby banked 5 commons up to 15lbs 10oz. Crediton angler Phil Tucker fished 3/4 way up on the left hand bank and banked three commons with his heaviest fish tipping the scales to 19lbs exactly. A mention for Simon Rodman who set himself a new personal best catch when he landed a 17lbs 2oz specimen common from the main lake this past week and Thorverton's Wayne Tooze who fished the top lake banking a 16lbs 1oz mirror carp off the surface along with 3 double figure commons tempted by ledger boillies up to 16lbs 2oz.

Tuesday 28th May 2007

The  mixed weather this past week has given some mixed bags of sport.  The larger carp have been spawning Wednesday, heavily on Thursday and sporadic activity on Friday, since then all has settled down again.  The variation of weather conditions have had quite an effect, with the hot days there have been numerous fish just basking on the surface, during the wet windy days the surface chop seems to keep them in mid water levels.  The margins have tempted many fish to feed, especially underneath the tree overhangs but the mid to deeper waters have also produced some activity this past week.

Heaviest fish out for the week was banked by Bideford's Chris Bissett (senior) who gained a new personal best fish during his second ever fishing trip.  Chris fished  near the boathouse on the left hand bank and hooked a handsome common carp weighing 23lbs exactly  using ledger tactics.  His son, also Chris, favored fishing  surface tactics and tempted 9 fish during one session up to mid double figures.  Joint largest bag for the week was by Poughill angler Chris Hill who fished the first swim on the right hand bank and produced 14 fish on the bank.  Topping his catches was a nice 20lbs 2oz common, his bait Billetts boillies.  Chris is pictured below with his catch of last week, a 27lbs 8oz specimen taken at two angles.

Also joint largest bag of 14 fish was banked by Crediton's Phil Tucker.  Phil's catches included just the one single figure common of around 6lbs then 13 commons all mid doubles plus with the heaviest fish scaling 17lbs 8oz.  Crediton angler Wayne Grinney had a good bag of 10 fish using Billetts boillies, crayfish flavor.  Topping his catches was a plump common scaling 23lbs 2oz with all the rest of the fish being commons except one mirror carp of 13lbs 8oz. Exeter angler Chris Tape continues an impressive season with 10 fish up to 22lbs 8oz during one day session and on another occassion tempting 7 commons up to 19lbs, both times free ining dog biscuits. Holiday guests John and Barbara Brett from Kent both caught a 20pounder this past week,  Barbara out fishing her husband with a larger specimen which tipped the scales to 21lbs exactly but John caught greater numbers of fish.  Tony Johnson of Gloucester also tempted a 20pounder whilst fishing 2/3 way up on the right hand bank.  Bristol angler Mark Butcher banked 3 commons up to 14lbs, Exeter's Roger Bowskill banked 7 fish all good doubles with his top two fish scaling 22lbs 8oz and 19lbs exactly.  Taunton angler Chris Meikle reported a 4 fish bag with 3 commons together with a mirror carp of 14lbs 8oz which was heaviest out for the week.

In the top lake there has been some good sport especially around the mid way up both sides of the lake.  Exeter's Alex Toze brought two of his friends fishing to Creedy to catch their first ever double figure sized carp.  Darren Old, Exeter, had largest fish between them and also heaviest fish out of the top lake this past week with his 14lbs specimen.  In total Darren managed to tempt a bag of 10 fish including a 4lbs green tench.  Picutured below is the 14lbs common.

Exeter Darren Chant also of Exeter caught 12 Carp, largest bag for the week out of the top lake, with his best catch scaling  13lb - pictured below:

Both anglers used ledger tactics with a combination of pellets and boillies.  Alex who introduced the pair to Creedy was out fished but as he said he was happy to share his experience and was pleased that both his mates had a good day.

Tuesday 22nd May 2007

A good week's fishing overall with some of the larger specimens out on all three banks this past week. Still the surface tactics working well mainly with dog biscuit and pop-up boillies whilst on  leger presentation  boillies over pellet beds seems to still be the trick, both pineapple and billetts producing well.

Heaviest fish for the week was landed by Cullompton's Jonathan Soames.  His specimen weighing 27lbs 12oz came amongst a 10 fish bag.  Other catches included a 23lbs 11oz, one of 19lbs 12oz, a 17lbs 2oz and a 16lbs 10oz, one of 13lbs 4oz, a 10lbs 8oz, a pair of 6lbs and a 4lbs tench.  Poughill angler Chris Hill tempted a total of 12 fish during a day session with his best two catches scaling 27lbs 8oz and 23lbs 2oz, fishing with Billetts latest crayfish boillies.  Westward Ho angler Kevin Mc Carthy had best bag for the week with 18 fish during one session including 4 x 20pounders.  His largest commons were topped with a 24pounder followed by a 22lbs 4oz, a 20lbs 2oz and a 20lbs 8oz.  Of all his fish just one was a single figure common with all the rest being 15lbs+ in weight.   Pictured below is the 24lbs common.

The previous day Kevin also reported a 9 fish day including a pair of 17's, an 18lbs 2oz and topping his catches was this exceptionally long specimen common weighing  21lbs 8oz - pictured below.

Heaviest mirror carp this week came off the surface by Mike Cuff of Weston-super-mare when he hooked a deep looking 27lbs 8oz mirror carp. Mike hooked a total of 5 fish that session fishing adjacent to the boathouse on the left hand bank.  On his second trip this past week Mike chose to fish the same spot and took 5 double figure commons up to 25lbs 12oz.  Exeter's Chris Tape fished 3/4 way up on the right hand bank, again on the surface freelining dog biscuit.  He finished his session with 8 commons including a 26lbs 2oz, a 23lbs 4oz and one scaling 22lbs exactly, his total fish weight amounting to 146lbs of fish. Bridgewater angler Adam Phillips reported 5 fish up to 23lbs from the shallow end of the top of right hand bank whilst North Devon angler James Verney tempted 7 commons up to 20lbs 6oz. Father & son angling duo Mick and Dave McGuire from near Truro had a good couple of days fishing at Creedy tempting around 24 fish between them topped by a  nice 22lbs 12oz specimen common. Other catches included a pair of 16's, one of 15lbs and one of 14lbs, certainly it was worth the trip they said.  Okehamptons's Chris Ryan fished corn and banked a 21lbs common when he dropped in at the top of the left hand bank for an evening session. Exeter's Matt Mills was well rewarded when he managed a bag of 3 commons including a 19lbs 5oz common which gave him a new personal best catch.  Bristol angler Mark Butcher fished towards the top of right hand bank and had a good mixed bag.  Topping his catches was a 21lbs mirror carp along with two double and one single figure common carp and also three green tendh up to 4lbs. Mr M. Cordey banked 5 fish with two common carp to 19lbs 5oz along with 3 tench up to 3lbs in weight.  Mr D. A  5lbs 4oz specimen tench was also banked by Copplestone angler Allan Hull.  Alan also hooked a pair of singles, a 2lbs eel along with another green tench of 3lbs.

The top lake has been providing some fairly consistent sport still.  Mr J. Mulford of Bristol fished floating dog biscuit in the top lake and banked an 18lbs common carp along with a fully scaled mirror carp which tipped the scales to 13lbs exactly.

Tuesday 9th May 2007

There has been sporadic spawning activity at Creedy over this past week mainly with the low to mid doubles being preoccupied.  The fishing has been quite varied with some days being productive and others fairly quiet.  Action has been maintained from the shallows and also in the marginal areas typically under the larger tree overhangs.  There have be  fish tempted off the surface again this past week but we have seen an increase in the  ledger action with savory flavored boillies, sweetcorn/maize and maggot working well. The Laird brothers also tried their luck up in the top lake as there was so much spawning activity in the main lake which provided them with some entertaining sport in the form of pretty looking specimen commons ranging from 6lbs up to 12lbs 8oz (heaviest catch from the top lake this week). Baits included halibut pellet fished over mixed pellet and maggot, 10mm extreme marine pop-up boillies and on the surface marine floater pellets and glugged dog biscuits.  Exeter's Dean Compton also reported a good day of 14 fish with five double figures, heaviest tipping the scales to 20lbs 6oz.Crediton angler Dan Strong banked a pair of commons up to 24lbs 6oz from 3/4 way up on the right hand bank, and Mr L Marchant of Cullompton experienced a productive first ever session at Creedy when he landed a 24lbs common along with a pair of 19's and one of 15lbs. Tuesday 1st May

The best week's fishing possibly to date ever with 30 of those 20 pounders out on the bank this past week.  All three banks have been very productive amid shallow and deeper water depths and all baits have proved very tempting when the fish are hungry.  Several anglers have had good success off the surface but the number of fish out on the ledger has improved this past week. Placing baits in the margins and under tree overhangs are proving very successful also.

Heaviest fish out this week was by Stephen Thorne of North Devon when he hooked his 28lbs 2oz common whilst fishing near the boathouse on the left hand bank.  Stephen also hooked a 22lbs 4oz, a pair of 19pounders along with 3 smaller ones. A new personal best catch for Taunton's Glen Cornish whilst he fished on the far bank when he landed his 26lbs 11oz specimen common.  Glen also had one scaling 22lbs, three mid to upper doubles, a single figure along with a mirror of 12lbs 13oz.  Torquay hotelier Bob West fished 3/4 way up on the right hand bank and tempted a lovely 26lbs 1oz common together with a 14pounder and a pair of single figures.  Morchard Road angler David Hill fished squid & octopus boillies amid the shallow margins on the top of right hand bank and landed himself a new personal best catch when he hooked into a 25lbs common.  David also tempted one common of 15lbs.  Big fish below:

James Verney chose to fish in the first swim on the right hand side and had a cracking day banking a  total of 20 fish - heaviest & largest bag.  Topping his catches were a pair of 20's - 20lbs 10oz and 20lbs 3oz together with 18 double sized carp - all of which were commons.

Barnstaple angler Chris Bissett fished on the boathouse bank and produced 3 x 20pounders during one session topped by a 23lbs 6oz common.  Commons of 22lbs 6oz and 21lbs 2oz were followed by a 17lbs and a single figure during a recent day session. Another North Devon angler Ricky Yeo had his best ever day at Creedy when he hooked 4 x 20pounders during a 7 fish session.  Topping his catches was a 23lbs 4oz, followed by commons of 22lbs 4oz, 22lbs 2oz, 21lbs 9oz, 19lbs 14oz, 17lbs 14oz and a 3lbs mirror carp.  His total bag weight came to nearly 130lbs of fish - pictures below:

A mention for Leeds angler Mark Baraniak who achieved his aim of catching a 20pounder this past week during his holiday.  His best day was a 7 fish bag with 6 commons up to 22lbs along with a 4lbs green tench.  Unfortunately he is now in plaster after falling and breaking a bone in his foot which has scuppered his fishing albeit it temporary.  We do wish Mark a speedy recovery.  Fellow Leeds angler Mark Gibson also reported another good session with a 5 fish bag: 4 commons up to 21lbs 4oz along with heaviest tench out this past week of 5lbs.  A first visit to Creedy for Adrian Mills produced a 22lbs 5oz personal best catch when he fished along the boathouse bank, Adrain also tempted 3 small commons.

Taunton's Jon Cole hooked himself a new personal best catch of 22lbs exactly when he fished on the far bank this past week.  Jon also caught commons of 13lbs and 4lbs.

Exeter's Kevin Goodey picked a new personal best catch when he landed his 22lbs 5oz common - pictured below:

A mention for Exeter junior angler D. Eveleigh who out fished his dad during a session this past week when he landed a lovely looking specimen of 19lbs 4oz whilst fishing on the far bank of the main lake.

Tuesday 24th April 2007

This past week has seen a slight lowering of air temperatures which have been a welcome relief for the majority of anglers and the fish seemed to have also responded positively. Overall there has been larger bags from all banks of the main lake along with heaviest catch so far this season.  Largest catch for the past week was tempted off the surface by Exeter's Chris Tape with free lined dog biscuit.  His 7 fish bag was topped by a 27lbs 12oz common along with a 23lbs 8oz, a 20lbs 2oz, a pair of 19pounders, one of 18lbs and one of 16lbs giving a total combined bag weight of just over 143lbs of fish.  Another Exeter angler Burt Collins chose to fish on the far bank and was well rewarded during his day session with his solitary catch which was also tempted off the surface with a pop up bait.  This big catch gives Burt a new personal best catch - pictured below:

Weston-super-mare angler Andrew Harper came to visit Creedy after a long absence, fishing on the right hand bank on a ledger pineapple fusion boillie.  He successfully hooked 2 fish, the first catch off the surface scaling 12lbs 8oz followed by a 26lbs common which gave him a new personal best. Exeter's Andy Western also hooked a new personal best catch off the surface when he hooked his 25lbs specimen common.  Leeds holiday guest Andy Gibson got off to a great start when he hooked a brace of carp during his first evening at Creedy.  His first catch was a common scaling 20lbs, followed by a 14lbs 4oz and finally a mirror carp of 20lbs exactly which was heaviest mirror for the week. Both fish are pictured below:

Recent dad, Andy Parkinson from Copplestone reported largest bag for the week of 14 fish during one session.  His bag consisted of 3 singles, 7 low to mid double figure commons, a pair of 16's, one of 18lbs 6oz and topped by a 20lbs 4oz common carp. A mention for his partner, Kelly, who recently gave birth to a new baby, Sophie Louise who weighed 6lbs 9oz - many congratulations to all three of them.  Shaun Goode of Broadclyst, Exeter banked two commons of 14lbs and 20lbs exactly, Crediton's Stuart Greenslade banked an 18lbs common off the far bank and Crediton duo Wayne Grinney and Paul Gribble hooked 11 fish between them best scaling 17lbs 8oz on the latest Billett boillie - 'crayfish' fishmeal. Newton Abbott's Dave Clewer tempted an 18lbs off the surface also on dog biscuit.

Pictured below is one of last weeks catches, a 22lbs 2oz common caught by North Devon angler Pete Hall:

The top lake has given some good sport over the past week with heaviest catch this past week scaling 18lbs caught by Poughill angler Colin Hurricks, pictured below:

Colin also banked a pair of 16pounders, one of 10lbs and one of 8lbs and 7lbs respectively giving 75lbs of fish.  Newton Abbott angler Anthony Hodgson recorded 7 fish topped with a pair of 16lbs commons amassing a total of 72lbs of fish.

Certainly a productive time to fish now onwards in both waters as the fish are beginning to start to swell and pack on the weight, in advance of spawning.

Tuesday 17th April 2007

This warm weather continues and has encouraged large numbers of fish to bask on the water surface which has given favorable conditions for surface fishing for those who want more action.  Ledger activity has been relatively quiet in the main lake but those tactics have been more productive up in the top lake for the recent period. Sweetened boillies such as maple syrup, pineapple fished in conjunction with an assortment of pellet sizes seem to have been more tempting on the bottom along with zig rig method.  The favorite surface tactics continues to be dog biscuits.

Heaviest catch from the main lake was both a common and a mirror carp which both scaled 23lbs exactly.  The common carp was tempted along with a 15pounder, unfortunately the lucky angler forgot to put his name to the catch. The mirror carp was taken off the surface by Exeter angler Chris Tape who fished surface dog biscuit from the right hand bank.  Chris also banked commons of 20lbs, 18lbs 12oz, 18lbs, 17lbs, two of 16lbs, one of 13lbs  and an 18lbs mirror carp.  His total bag weight amassed  just short of 160lbs of fish and his tactics of free lining of dog biscuit seemed to be the answer that session. North Devon angler Pete Hall chose the zig rig method and not long after starting his session he hooked a nice specimen weighing 22lbs 12oz.  Bideford angler Andy Carpenter also fished surface baits whilst fishing on the far bank, first catching a 22lbs 7oz specimen followed by one scaling 22lbs 12oz. His 14year old son Marcus caught more fish, 4 in fact with a mirror carp of 13lbs  and 3 double figure commons up to 19lbs exactly. Pictured below Andy Carpenter with his 22lbs 12oz, below that the 22lbs 7oz specimen.

Below is 14 year old Marcus Carpenter with his 19lbs common and below the 13lbs 8oz mirror carp.

Holiday guest Barry Bagnall down from Dundee experienced a fairly tough week - especially as surface tactics were not his spatiality.  Barry did however tempt a good sized 21lbs 8oz specimen during his stay and also had largest bag for the week out of the top lake, 7 fish up to 13lbs  including a pretty ghost carp around 6lbs in weight. Crediton junior Lee Brooks hooked this 21lbs 1oz common pictured below whilst fishing on the right hand bank.

Tim and Tony Short of Okehampton banked 12 fish between them using surface tactics and mainly stalking into the quieter corners of the main lake. Tim totalled 6 catches ranging from 12lbs up to 16lbs 4oz making a combined bag weight of nearly 88lbs of fish.  Father, Tony tempted a pair of double figure carp from the main lake up to 17lbs 4oz and then went on up to the top lake and tempted the heaviest catch to date this season out of the top water which tipped the scales to 18lbs 12oz.  Tony also reported 3 other double common.. Exeter's Kevin Goodey fished the top lake banking 3 commons including a pair of doubles, best weighing 15lbs 6oz.  Brian Iremonger, also of Exeter, banked 11 fish with 6 single figure commons, 4 low doubles and a 3lbs ghost carp whilst fishing to the blanked weed cover.

Tuesday 10th April 2007

Still a challenging time to get the fish feeding in great volume over the past week at Creedy.  There have been many fish jumping and appearing to clean themselves all over the lake in all water depths, generally fish catches of one or two but a few bigger bags with  some of the larger fish reported. Heaviest fish for the week was from Belvedere angler Ray Stevens who fished 4th swim on right hand bank.  Using ledger Billett boillies he tempted a lovely looking 25lbs 8oz common carp from mid water depths, after having several other unsuccessful runs during his day session.  Exeter's Chris Tape free lined dog biscuit on the surface and hooked 5 commons.  Topping his catches was a 23lbs and one of 22lbs, along with  a 19lbs, one of 16lbs and one of 13lbs. Crediton's Gary Brooks had largest/best bag for the week with his 7 fish catch.  Fishing from the far bank Gary tempted 7 commons and topping his catches was a specimen common of 22lbs 12oz.  All his fish were in the double figure brackets and his total bag weight was over 100lbs.  Gary's 14 year old son Lee hooked three fish with a pair of single figures together with one of 19lbs.  Paul Pollard of Taunton chose to fish amid shallower water depths at the top of right hand bank and used ledger tactics to tempt just the one fish but an impressive 22lbs 7oz common carp. Yeovil angler Chris Tibble fished the boathouse bank using a variety of pop ups and zig rig methods and finished his session with 3 commons up to 21lbs 2oz.  Nigel Smythe of Brendon Baits, Minehead fished the far bank using his own boillies and hooked commons of 18lbs 12oz and 20lbs 6oz. Fourteen year old Marcus Carpenter of Bideford fished the point swim of the far bank and used dog biscuit off the surface tempting commons of 21lbs 4oz, and ones of 15lbs and 13lbs.  Dorchester angler Simon de Mouilpied banked an 18lbs 8oz from the boathouse bank, Exeter's Brian Ford tempted 3 commons off the surface of 18lbs, 17lbs and 13lbs and several other low to mid doubles were reported.

The top lake has continued to provide some consistent sport for those energetic anglers who chose to make the journey up the top.  Jeff Bunting tempted heaviest fish out of the top lake this past week with his 16lbs common also hooking one of 14lbs when fishing from the far side.  Tiverton's Wayne Richards fished the right bank and was pleased with his 12lbs 12oz common from the dam end of the top lake, Sidford angler D. Dixon banked a 14lbs 8oz and Miss G. Chamberlain of Exeter hooked two double figure commons scaling 12lbs and 13lbs 8oz.

Pictured below is Ian Laird from Barnstaple with his common of 21lbs 14oz of the previous week.

2006 Creedy lake Trophy winners are pictured below after the annual presentation this past week.  From left to right: Andy Carpenter, Mr Tom Turner and Lee Brooks.

Bideford angler Andy Carpenter caught heaviest catch of the '06 season last September during his first visit to Creedy, his fish weighing 29lbs 4oz.

Fourteen year old Crediton angler Lee Brooks was  presented with the Hurn memorial trophy for best junior catch with his common carp scaling 26lbs 10oz.

The fishing form continues to be fairly tough with persistent north easterly winds, some early morning frosts and even a couple of hail showers this past week.  However for the last two days general air temperatures have improved so hopefully this will have an impact on the fishing.  There are certainly many fish topping and jumping at present which is encouraging.  Heaviest fish for the past week was by Bideford angler Dave Lewis when he banked his 24lbs 10oz common whilst fishing adjacent to the boat house on the left hand bank.  His son Mark also got a good result when he landed heaviest mirror carp scaling 19lbs 12oz and shortly followed that with a common of 20lbs 10oz, both anglers out for their first visit to Creedy this season and used boillies over a mixed bed of bait.  Exeter's Steve Chamberlain fished on fool's day, the first, hooking a 4lbs 8oz eel alongside a nice looking 22lbs common carp.  Barnstaple angler Iain Laird fished at Creedy for the first time ever and banked a cracking 21lbs 14oz common carp from 3/4 way up on the left hand side using a sprinkling of maggot as a bed. Westward Ho angler Simon McCarthy hooked just a solitary catch but a plump 19lbs 10oz common carp whilst fishing up from the boathouse on the left bank.  Dennis Bilkey used pineapple boillie to tempt a 17lbs 8oz common and Neil White banked a 16lbs 2oz common fishing with source boillie.  Mr Greenslade banked a 19lbs common along with tench up to 5lbs, Minehead angler Steve Liddle banked a 16lbs 10oz common, Taunton's Glen Cornish banked a 17lbs common whilst fishing the right hand bank.  Darren Short of Tiverton fished the far bank and tempted a 16lbs 2oz common whilst Okehampton's J. Short fished the boathouse bank and had a pair of double figure commons up to 16lbs.

Tuesday 27th March 2007

A very tough week's fishing with those biting northerly winds definitely putting the fish off the  feed and also the anglers off fishing for the first part of last week.  Cullompton's Jonathan Soanes fished the far bank with the best result of the week having best bag and heaviest fish.  Topping his 7 fish bag was a 25lbs 4oz common along with one of 20lbs 11oz, a pair of 18pounders, one of 16lbs 6oz, one at 14lbs 12oz, one single figure and a tench.   Exeter's Mark Downing  continues a good season banking a  20lbs 13oz common along with a single figure this past week.  Crediton's Mike Izzard gets his season off to a boost with a  three fish bag this week with two low double figure commons topped by one of 22lbs.   Holiday guest Rob Harden banked an 18lbs common, Exeter angler Dave Cameron banked two 16lbs common, Crediton's Wayne Grinney hooked 3 commons to 15lbs 14oz and Patch Passmore of Barnstaple banked 4 commons up to 16lbs 8oz. 13th March 2007

Fishing form at Creedy continues with another impressive weeks catches.  All banks seem to be producing some of the larger specimens, possibly the deeper waters being most productive.  Popular baits at the minute continue to be the latest Billetts boillies used in conjunction with a pellet bed along with maize and maggots.

Heaviest catch for the week, also for the new season was tempted by colyton angler Mr Paul Cox who chose to fish 3/4 way up on right bank.  His 2 fish bag was topped by a beautiful 26lbs 10oz common together with one of 13lbs.  Cullompton's Jonathan Soanes also recorded a good pair of commons whilst fishing from adjacent to the boathouse on the left hand bank.  Jon's best catch tipped the scales to 24lbs 12oz, his other double weighed 24lbs 12oz. Below is Crediton's Mike Izzard with his 20lbs 1oz common carp which he caught last week.

Tuesday 6th  March 2007

Monday 26th February 2007

The new 2007 season at Creedy begins at 5.30am this Thursday, 1st March.  Hopefully the weather forecast although grey and wet will not be hampered with the possibility of ice/frost dragging water temperatures down.  The water is looking encouraging as it is well colored at the present moment, indicating that there is good fish movement and hopefully the fish should be ready to feed.  Due to the mild winter period during which we have been closed the fish have been regularly fed to maintain both their body weights and their general condition, this has only been viable due to the warmer water temperatures and triggered by the fact that the fish have been so active.

The surrounding paths to lakes have been resealed and the dam walk way between the top and the main lake has been re enforced. There has been a new path from the weir half way up on the top lake as the bank was so wet. Two swims have also been backed up along the right hand side of the main lake.

End of 2006 season

The 2006 season ended on Monday 1st January with unfortunately no big fish at the end  of the season.  The heaviest fish for 2006 was Andy Carpenter's common carp which was caught in mid September whilst fishing at the top of right hand bank amid shallow water depths.  The Bideford angler's  catch was tempted by shellfish B5 boillies and tipped the scales to 29lbs 4oz, it was one of a 9 fish bag and his combined bag weight was an excellent 172lbs.

Best junior for 2006 season was 14 year old  Lee Brooks of Crediton with his 26lbs 13oz common which was caught whilst fishing from the point swim on the far bank.  Lee fished boillies and tempted a total of 5 fish during that session on 21st May '06.

The 2006 season ended with no surprises at the end, overall though it was a good season.  The heaviest mirror was banked in April and the heaviest common of ‘06 was tempted off the surface in September. There were some very prolific bags including Rob Pascoe with his 43 fish which was a new record for Creedy in one session.

We will keep our fingers crossed for all anglers that the 2007 season will be a healthy and happy one with many catches!!!!

With the milder weather conditions still continuing which has spurred the fish into feeding in spurges.  In the main lake most anglers have been concentrating on the mid to deeper water depths, especially around the lower end of the central island and this seems to be quite productive at times, pellet beds with small hook baits such as Billetts winter mix boillie, sweetcorn and maggot being the favorite at present. The top lake has remained consistent providing some good regular sport for those who chose the venue and the fish seem to be taking a range of baits.

Best bag was Rob Pascoe who had 12 runs in total and managed to bank a total of 10 fish, topped with a pair of big commons scaling 20lbs 14oz and 20lbs 4 oz respectively.  Rob fished 1/3 way up on the right hand swim and reported that he had very little action until after 2.30pm.   Barnstaple's Dave Rothery tempted heaviest fish for the time period, although just the one catch, a very nice common weighing 21lbs 8oz.  Exeter tile shop manager Brant Wells fished the boathouse bank and successfully landed a 20lbs common.  Crediton angler Mike Izzard banked 3 fish with the heaviest tipping the scales to 20lbs 8oz whilst fishing next door to the aerator swim on the right hand bank. Exeter's Roger Bowskill continues a good winter season and on his first occasion he banked 3 good sized commons up to 20lbs 4oz, on his second trip he landed 4 commons up to just over 18lbs. Mr Wiliams banked a pair of 20's, the heaviest scaling 21lbs 3oz and both commons.  Exeter angler Mark Downing reported a mid double specimen weighing 14lbs 8oz and Damien Dayman recorded a mid low double figure common.

Out from the top lake Mr K. Goodey of Exeter produced best mixed bag with a pair of commons of 11lbs 6oz and 13lbs 10oz, a lovely 16lbs 2oz mirror carp and 2 tench up to 3lbs making a 5 fish bag.  Another Exeter angler Mr Iremonger landed 5 fish also up to 16lbs out from the top lake.

Just to let everyone know we will be closing at 11pm on 1st January and reopening on Thursday 1st March 2007.

We would like to thank all our anglers for their valued custom and wish them a very peaceful and joyous Christmas and a healthy 2007.  Best wishes from all at Creedy.

Thursday 30th November 2006

The last couple of weeks have seen a few fish out on the bank, no large bags and probably more action originating from the mid to deeper waters.  The top lake seems to have been definitely more consistent for those anglers that chose that water with all species taking the baits. Recommended baits are maggots, corn, pellets and winter fruit mix Billett boillies also quite popular at the moment.

With now just over 4 weeks to go for the remainder of the 2006 season there is still a good chance to hook one of those larger specimens before Creedy closes on Monday January 1st 2007 at 11pm.  The relatively mild weather conditions have made the water temperatures fairly high for the time of the year which should still present the opportunity for several anglers to dip their rods again before any hard signs of frost.  For December Creedy is offering all it's customers a complimentary return ticket to use  before the end of the season when you purchase a ticket, ask the bailiff or ring for details if required.

Heaviest fish out for the period was a cracking 23lbs 8oz specimen common which was hooked and banked by Mr P. Webber.  His fellow angling companion Mr Johnson also landed a nice brace of commons scaling 19lbs 4oz and 18lbs 12oz.  Crediton's Mike Izzard recorded largest bag of 6 doubles when he chose to fish near the aerator on the right hand bank.  Mike's best catch weighed 14lbs.  On another session Mike banked 5 good sized doubles topped by a pair of 16 pounders, 16lbs 12oz and 16lbs 8oz respectively.  Allan Hull from Copplestone fished adjacent to the boathouse on the left hand bank and produced 3 fish - all commons including a 15lbs and topped by a 17lbs.  Mr S. Taylor also banked a pair of commons of 15lbs and 18lbs.

Out from the top lake Exeter's Mark Peacock tempted heaviest catch which tipped the scales to 15lbs 2oz whilst fishing the right hand side.  Mark also hooked a 13lbs and a 6lbs specimen.  Mr D. O'Brien recorded 3 catches up to 12lbs in weight, Mr K. Goodey of Exeter reported a lovely looking mirror which scaled 10lbs 2oz along with a common of 8lbs 14oz and a 3lbs green tench and his fellow angler, Ben, banked heaviest mirror carp of 14lbs 8oz.

Tuesday 7th November 2006

The past fortnight has been somewhat mixed with at last temperatures falling and the beginning of some frosty mornings which should hopefully bring the fish on to feed and get their heads down.  Although not great bags there has been spasmodic feeding with possibly the shallow to mid waters out performing the deeper sections of the main lake. The top lake has been definitely more active with obvious clouds of mud and several fish jumping which looks quite attractive at the moment.

Largest bag and heaviest catch for the fortnight was by Cullompton's Jonathan Soanes when he chose to fish the first swim on the boathouse bank.  Jonathan fished leger tactics and tempted 6 fish topping his catches was a 24lbs 10oz common.  His other catches included a 21lbs 11oz common, a 19lbs 12oz common, one of 17lbs 4oz, a 14lbs 1oz and an 11lbs 6oz.  Barnstaple junior Imogen Dawes outfished her father Mark when she successfully landed a specimen common scaling 21lbs 3oz whilst fishing near the boathouse.  Mark did manage to tempt a single figure common during his session.   Father and son angling duo Tony and Tim Short of Okehampton found the lakes quite challenging and decided to use their favorite surface tactics with good results.  Tony (pictured directly below hooked a 20lbs 8oz out from the first swim on the right hand bank) whilst Tim decided to stalk at the top of the left hand bank and landed a 20lbs 4oz common (pictured below again).

Bideford's Alan Clarke moved swim round to the far bank and tempted a 19lbs 14oz common after fishing the boathouse bank.  Crediton's Mike Izzard fished the top of right hand bank and landed three good sized doubles of 19lbs 8oz, 17lbs 2oz and 16lbs 6oz. Tiverton's Wayne Richards fished 3/4 way up on right hand bank and landed a 19lbs followed by one of 18lbs, both common carp.

Tuesday 24th October 2006

A tough weeks fishing at Creedy this past week especially in the main lake.  The top lake however has remained quite lively with the fish actively feeding and much apparent movement.

Heaviest fish tempted out from the main lake was by Rob Kendall of Bideford who chose to fish on the far bank this session.  As there were many fish visible on the surface Rob chose floating tactics with chum dog biscuit firstly tempting a common scaling 23lbs followed by one of 19lbs - also off the surface.  Crediton's Mike Izzard settled in his usual swim at the top of the right hand bank ledgering in shallow water and had largest bag of 9 fish - all of which were good sized fish.  Topping his catches was a 19lbs mirror carp along with a 19lbs common.  Mike also banked commons of 18lbs 8oz, 17lbs 2oz, a pair of 16's, a 15lbs 9oz. one of 12lbs 8oz and one of 10lbs - giving a total bag weight of just over 144lbs of fish which was exceptional for the form at the present time.  Mr Wayne Richards fished 3/4 way up on right hand bank and set himself a new personal best catch when he hooked heaviest mirror for the week which weighed 21lbs 12oz.  Wayne from Tiverton, also banked a pair of commons of 19lbs 12oz and 15lbs 12oz respectively.  Tiverton's Darren Short banked a pair of low double figure commons and Cullompton's Tim Surridge reported 2 fish.  Adam Bojar of Bovey Tracey fished maggot and corn banking one mirror carp plus 5 tench up to 4lbs.

The top lake recorded heaviest tench for the week by Rugby's Mr B. Franklin who was staying with friends when he landed a specimen of 4lbs 8oz.  Mr Jones of Taunton also reported several tench up to nearly 4lbs 8oz and commons up to 9lbs, both saying they had a good days sport in the top lake.

Tuesday 16th October 2006

Temperatures remain mild generally with a couple of storms and there are still many of the stock mooching on the surface and not really getting their heads down for the autumn feed up.  During the thunder storms there have been a few excitements but probably the majority of the fish this past week have been tempted out of the corners and margins where there has been the only visible sign of feeding in the main lake.

Exeter's Darren Martin traveled light and just stalked in the margins of the top of the left hand bank and around to the far bank tempting out three good fish including a 25lbs 12oz common specimen (heaviest fish of the week) together with commons of 22lbs and 16lbs.  Bideford's Rob Kendall found it a struggle on the boathouse bank and decided to move to where the fish were more active up at the top of right hand bank in the shallow regions and hooked a lovely 23lbs 12oz common on a home made leger boillie, it was his only catch that session however- picture below:

Rob has had some other handsome specimens recently and pictured below is a 19lbs 4oz common and a lovely 20lbs 9oz mirror which were both tempted off the surface.

Blacksmith Gareth Simpson-Daemes fished in the first swim on the right hand bank after a spell of not fishing for several months. Gareth ended his session with three commons of 22lbs, 17lbs and 6lbs respectively.  Bideford's Chris Williams banked 3 fish up to 20lbs 8oz and fellow Bideford angler Adam Short tempted a 19lbs 14oz common off the bottom.  Barry Bagnall from Scotland had a tough week during his visit to Creedy but did manage to tempt 6 commons during his week with heaviest catch a 18lbs 6oz common. Crediton's Geoff Seabrook fished 3/4 way up on the boathouse bank fishing oddessy xxx single baits and tempted a 17lbs 8oz specimen common.  Wellington's Mr A.Williams reported an excellent session when he had his first ever carp whilst fishing at Creedy, firstly catching a 15lbs 2 and then followed by a 19lbs 8oz common.

The top lake has not seen many anglers but is still worth trying, especially during the day and then transferring down to the main lake.  Thorverton junior Alex Toze had heaviest fish from the top lake scaling 15lbs 15oz off from the surface this past week.

Tuesday 10th October 2006

Nine 20 pounders out on the bank this past week during a hard weeks fishing generally. One of the big fish was tempted out by a surface bait whilst all the others fell to ledger tactics with heaviest fish of the week scaling 24lbs 10oz by Nick Billett whilst fishing the far bank using Billett boillies.  Nick's other catches included a pair of low doubles together with an 18pounder.  Heaviest mirror carp of the week was by Crediton's Mike Izzard who fished the top of the right hand bank amid shallower waters and hooked a 21lbs 2oz pictured below:

Mike also banked commons of 14lbs 8oz and 16lbs.  Tiverton's Darren Short fished the top of left hand bank and landed a pair of commons to 20lbs 6oz whilst Westward Ho angler Kevin McCarthy fished near the boathouse and tempted a pair of tench, 3 small commonns, one of 19lbs and a 20lbs 12oz.  Highbridge angler Mark Coleman hooked just the one fish but a nice 20lbs 3oz common and Chris Bissett banked a specimen common of 21lbs 8oz.  Damien Dayman of Bideford fished the far bank for three doubles of 12lbs 2oz, 14lbs, 14lbs 4oz along with  a common of 22lbs.  Cullompton's Tim Surridge again had two good sessions this past week, one occasion banking  5 fish best of 20lbs 4oz and on the other session had largest bag from the main lake of around 87lbs of fish including 6 doubles up to 18lbs.  Scotish angler Barry Bagnell tempted an 18lbs mirror carp off the surface, Tiverton's Jeff Baggs hooked an 18pounder off the bottom at the top of the left hand bank. Bideford's Paul Billows banked 5 doubles with a combined bag weight of  67lbs of fish.  Exeter's Roger Bowskill landed 4 mid sized doubles up to 16lbs, another Exeter angler Mark Downing banked a 17lbs 8oz common fishing near the boathouse.  Bideford junior, 13 year old Marcus Carpenter hooked 7 fish up to 19lbs and Barry Bagnall had a lovely silver ghost carp of 8lbs 8oz out from the far bank.

The top lake looks tempting at the moment with much surface activity.  There have been only a few anglers fishing there recently, Tiverton's Adam Seaward recording best bag for the past week of 7 fish (3 tench and 4 carp up to 9lbs) on corn and maggott.

Tuesday 3rd October

Temperatures are still exceptionally mild for the time of the year and when the sun breaks through there are still many fish tending to sunbathe on the water's surface and at these times it is still worth floating on the surface with dog biscuit or bread.  The majority of anglers are now ledgering on the bottom, both the left and right hand banks being more popular but not necessarily more productive. This week has seen 8 20pounders out on the bank, some days quite challenging and other days being prolific with catches.  The top lake is fishing well this last week with some good mid doubles seen on the bank, especially the right hand bank into the deeper water at the dam end.

Heaviest fish for the week out from the main lake was by Adam Short of Bideford who ledgered on the bottom at the top of right hand bank. The north Devon angler banked 6 fish in total with 3 double figures, the best fish being a specimen common weighing 25lbs 6oz.  Cullompton care worker Tim Surridge had two personal best English commons this past week.  Firstly fishing adjacent to the boathouse on the left hand side Tim netted 130lbs of fish during a day session (heaviest bag for the week).  His catches topped with a new p.b. of 21lbs 8oz were accompanied with  a pair of 18pounders, a 17lbs 5oz, a 15lbs 12oz, a pair of 13's and 2 small singles.  During his next session Tim chose to fish the shelf swim on the far bank hooking 6 fish up to 23lbs 12oz which set him his latest new personal best catch.  Exeter angler Roger Bowskill fished 2/3 way up on the boathouse bank tempting a tench plus 4 commons to 20lbs.  Newton Abbott angler Michael Hird fished the far bank and landed 2 good doubles best scaling 20lbs 14oz whilst his father Stephen who fished beside him banked 6 fish (5 doubles) up to 18lbs 8oz.  Crediton's Mike Izzard fished his usual swim at the top of the right hand bank and tempted heaviest mirror carp for the week of 18lbs along with another of 15lbs 8oz.  During the same session Mike also had 3 commons of 14lbs, 18lbs 8oz and 20lbs 8oz. South Wales angler Anthony James (of Barry) had two good sessions at Creedy this past week. His first session he banked 10 commons up to 16lbs 8oz along with a pair of mirror carp best of 14lbs 8oz.  On the second trip Anthony banked 13 fish (largest bag for the week)  topped with a pair of big catches - 20lbs 1oz and 20lbs 4oz - his total bag weigh amassing  125lbs of fish. Other catches this past week included Westward Ho angler Kevin McCarthy (first swim on the right hand bank) with 5 commons up to 19lbs 10oz, Bideford's Chris Williams with 7 fish up to 18lbs 6oz. Richard Smith banked a common of 18lbs whilst his wife Elaine tempted carp up to 16lbs from the main lake.

Dave Humphries of Weston Super Mare tempted best catch out of the top lake this past week when he landed his 17lbs 8oz common using a savory boillie.  Dave fished the right hand side and also banked a pair of 10pounders that session.  Jamie Blackwell also of WSM banked a 13lbs common and fellow angler Darrell Williams banked 3 commons including a new personal best catch scaling 14lbs 8oz.  Holiday guest Martin  hooked several fish from the top lake up to 17lbs and his father in law Terry Daniels enjoyed much action including a 10lbs common catch.

Pictured below is Kevin McCarthy with two of this year's catches, top a 26lbs 4oz common and below a 24pounder.

Tuesday 26th September 2006

Varied action this past week probably when least expected.  Following the electrical storm over the weekend there was not that much activity but Newton Abbott's T. Wilson banked heaviest fish for the week, a 23lbs 8oz mirror carp fishing on the boathouse bank.  Another big mirror specimen was banked by Bideford angler Mr R. Kendall who fished at the top of the boathouse bank, both floating and ledgering, finishing his day session with 9 fish.  His best catch for the day was his 20lbs 9oz mirror tempted by a bottom bait at the mouth amid shallower water.  Carey Eccles of Plymouth banked 8 fish again from the boathouse bank with  7 single figures and a 20lbs 6oz common which was heaviest common for the week.  Chris Bissett from Dulford banked himself a new personal best catch when he landed his 20lbs 4oz common.  Chris also hooked three other double figures that session. Weston super mare anglers Joe Malik and Bill Fowler fished the boathouse bank for 3 good sized commons up to 19lbs 6oz whilst holiday maker Paul Beames banked an 18lbs 8oz common whilst his wife Jackie had two doubles up to 14lbs 12oz.  Allan Hull of Copplestone fished the first swim on the right hand bank having a good mixed bag - an eel, one tench and 3 commons up to 18lbs 12oz.  Plymouth angler Phil Jakes landed 4 commons up to 16lbs, Crediton's Phil Tucker 3 commons best scaling 16lbs 8oz whilst fishing the right hand bank. Cullompton's Tim Surridge had a 10 fish bag including his new personal best common carp of 18lbs 11oz.  His bag contained another 8 commons up to 17lbs 4oz and a 3lbs tench.  Cullompton's Luke Davis hooked 7 fish, all double figure commons up to 18lbs 2oz fishing with Brendon bait's spicey fish boilies.  Launceston's Dave Coombe had 5 fish fishing the right hand bank, 4 were doubles up to 18lbs 9oz.  Antony James of Barry (South Wales) had largest bag for the week whilst fishing 3/4 way up on the right hand bank including 4 double figures up to 15lbs 8oz.  Minehead's Nigel Smythe fished the island swim on the right hand bank to land 4 commons up to 14lbs 8oz along with a tench.  Exeter's Steve Carpenter fished the far bank and had 4 commons (including 3 upper doubles) along with a beautiful looking 5lbs mirror.  Exeter's Roger Bowskill fished the first swiim on right hand bank landing 5 commons with 3 doubles up to 16lbs together with a tench.  A mention for P. Davies of Cornwall who fished the boathouse bank and set himself a new personal best catch when he hooked his 16lbs 8oz common carp.

The top lake now does have a fair amount of patchy silk weed amongst the dam end but it certainly seems to be attracting the fish that end of the lake.  There have been several fish out on the bank up to 11lbs the largest this past week.

Tuesday 19th September 2006

This week has seen Creedy's heaviest fish of the season so far banked by North Devon electrician  Andy Carpenter.  The Bideford angler  chose the top swim on the right hand bank fishing amid the shallow regions and finished his session with 10 fish.  Heaviest catch was a specimen common carp tipping the scales to 29lbs 4oz tempted by a shellfish B5 boillie on the ledger.  Andy also hooked a 25lbs 3oz specimen along with 8 other good doubles and his total bag weight  amounted to 172lbs.  Both big fish are pictured  below, top is the 29lbs 4oz, below is the 25lbs 3oz. 172lbs of fish

Andy couldn't resist trying again for another session and this time fished 3/4 way up on the right hand bank into mid water. This time tempted 13 fish topped with  a 23lbs 1oz and his remaining 12 other catches were all double figures giving a total bag weight of 201lbs of fish.  Andy fished off the surface for many of his catches using a controller float with a pop up boillie. Newton Abbott's Stephen Hird banked 10 fish during his session at Creedy this past week and topping his catches was a mirror carp of 20lbs 6oz (heaviest specimen for the week).  His other catches included a pair of single figure commons, a pair of 13lbs along with 6 upper doubles best common weighing 20lbs 4oz (total bag weight of 166lbs of fish).  His son Michael had a quieter day with a 3lbs tench plus 3 double commons best of 18lbs.  Exeter's Martin Williams fished the right hand bank landing 4 good specimens, largest fish of 19lbs 8oz.  Lapford angler Jerry Pickard also fished the right hand bank and hooked a pair of double figure commons best of 17lbs. Tuesday 12th September 2006

A reasonable weeks fishing with 9 x 20pounders banked this past week.  The warm sunny days have brought a good portion of the stock sunbathing on the surface again although not many anglers have chosen floating tactics.  Good action on all three banks with mid afternoons being most productive. Maggots and sweetcorn have produced , also pellet and boillie combination have worked well. The top lake has been quiet with fishermen but still providing some good sport with several single figures banked.

Heaviest fish for the week was by North Devon's Kevin Mc Carthy who banked 14 fish whilst fishing near the boathouse.  The westward Ho angler topped his catches with a specimen common weighing 24lbs exactly, followed by a 17lbs 6oz, a pair of 16pounders and 10 single figure carp.  Largest bag for the week was had by Rob Pascoe when he finished his session with 25 commons.  Fishing 3/4 way up on the boathouse bank Rob topped his catches with a pair of 19's with the heaviest scaling 19lbs 10oz.  Crediton angler Mike Izzard maintains an excellent season banking heaviest mirror carp for the week which scaled 20lbs 8oz.  Mike also banked commons of 14lbs 8oz and 16lbs fishing the top of right hand bank.  Pictured below Mike's mirror carp 20lbs 8oz.

Tuesday 22nd August 2006

The arrival of the autumnal tinge in the air seems to have improved the fishing this past week with 15 x  20 pounders out on the bank from the main lake.  All three banks have seen some activity with possibly the mid waters being the most productive although there are many fish visible in the shallow regions still.  Heaviest fish for the week scaled 24lbs 7oz, banked by Richard Ward from Falmouth.  His specimen common was followed by a 2olbs 2oz, 12 other double figures, 2 singles and a pair of tench to 6lbs with was heaviest for the week also.  Copplestone's Allan Hull is recoupering after shingles and thought a spot of fishing would be relaxing - it turned out quite exciting for him as he had his best day at Creedy for some time now, banking 4 fish including commons of 24lbs 7oz, 21lbs 8oz, 18lbs 4oz and a single figure, all from the first swim on right hand bank.  Newton Abbott junior Chris Hawkes had his first time ever carp fishing and landed a 24lbs common whilst fishing 3/4 way up on the left hand bank, he gained a new personal best catch which was his first ever carp - quite a hard act to follow.  Well done.  Newton Abbott's Alan Skelly fished the left hand bank and hooked 8 carp up to 20lbs fishing in mid to deeper waters. Tuesday 25th July 2006

The hotter temperatures seem to be catching up with the fish who are not quite so keen to eat at the present.  Early mornings before 9am and after 6pm seem to be more productive in the main  lake whilst the top lake remains more consistent with fish steadily appearing regularly throughout the day.  Catches have been banked from all sides with mid to shallower regions possibly more prolific.

Heaviest common for the week was by Rob Pascoe tipping the scales round to 23lbs 10oz whilst fishing the left hand bank. Rob also banked a 20lbs 2oz but in total managed to hook and land 28 fish (largest bag from the main lake) which were all commons.  On another session Rob banked 12 fish, 11 commons topped with a 20lbs 10oz and a 22lbs 4oz along with a mirror carp. Falmouth's Lee Stephens had two good sessions this past week, firstly banking 8 fish with 6 doubles to 18lbs and on the other occasion banking 6 fish with 5 double figure commons to 18lbs 12oz plus a 15lbs 15oz mirror which was heaviest mirror carp for the week. Helston angler Richard Ward had a good day session when he landed 19 fish.  His catches of 14 doubles to 19lbs 12oz along with 5 single figures - all commons.  He adds that he has yet to catch a mirror out of Creedy. Newton Abbott angler Michael Hird hooked 6 commons all doubles topped by an 18lbs specimen along with others of : 17lbs 10oz, 16lbs 12oz, 14lbs 4oz, 13lbs 12oz and 12lbs 12oz.  His father Stephen who fished adjacent on the top of the right hand bank landed 4 double commons best scaling 18lbs 6oz along with a 15lbs 10oz mirror.

The top lake has again provided some good sport with Micky Palmer of  Pennymoor banking 60+ small fish.  Catches included many single figure carp and one of around 18lbs, 15 tench up to 4lbs 8oz which was heaviest tench for the week and a lovely golden tench of nearly 5lbs.  His son Ian Palmer banked 15 fish including carp up to 11lbs and 10 tench to 4lbs in weight.  Well worth a visit to the top lake even though it is further to walk!!

From the main lake there have been 6 x 20 pounders banked this past week and again some good bags including a new record largest bag during one session. The top lake, although a little weedy, continues to provide some regular action with  alot of smaller fish feeding at the moment.

New record for largest bag was made by Bridgewater's Rob Pascoe when he fished 3/4 way up on the left hand bank out in mid water and left of the central island.  He finished his session with a whopping 43 fish which kept him active all throughout the day.  Topping his catches was a common of 20lbs 4oz along with a pair of 18lbs and a 17lbs, his combined bag weight amounted to more than 400lbs of fish. Tuesday 4th July 2006

A slower start to the week but things have certainly got much more active the latter part of this last week, possibly due to the aerator pump now running continuously. The fishing returns have recorded 7 x 20pounders banked this week with bag sizes improving over the period.  The margins are still probably the most productive with stringers and pellets tempting some good catches, the floating dog biscuit freelined also continues to have good effect.

Heaviest fish for the week was again by Exeter's Chris Tape when he used dog biscuit to tempt a 23lbs 8oz specimen common  off the surface from the first swim on the right hand bank. Chris also banked a 21lbs, a 20lbs 8oz, 5 upper doubles and 2 low figure doubles, all 10 fish being commons.  His total bag weight amassed to 180lbs of fish in one session.

Pictured below is Cornish angler Glen Hughes with his 20lbs 3oz common, caught the previous week.

Also pictured below is a recent catch from Vic Cranfield with his 22lbs 4oz specimen.

And !!! the 22lbs common which was hooked by Elaine Smith.

Copplestone's Phil Jefferies had two good sessions at Creedy this past week, firstly fishing the left hand bank amid mid water depths and banking a pair of good doubles best scaling 20lbs 11oz.  His second session which was his best ever at Creedy whilst fishing mid way on the right hand bank Phil banked a 23lbs 1oz common, closely followed by a 20lbs 10oz common and then later finished with a 19lbs 4oz mirror carp which was heaviest mirror specimen for the week.  This last catch also gave Phil a new personal best mirror carp for which he was well pleased. Another angler who was well pleased was Thorverton junior, 14 year old Jack Payre-Cook.  Jack fished mid way on the right hand bank and managed to bank his first ever 20pounder, a common of 20lbs 8oz. Bridgwater's Rob Pascoe had largest bag of 31 fish in total when he fished the boathouse bank just close to the central island.  All his catches were common carp and his largest specimen weighed 19lbs 2oz, most of his other catches averaging  low doubles making his bag weight over 300lbs of fish. The top lake has produced carp up to 16lbs this past week by Torquay's Mr Stevens.  Lapford angler Norman Norris and Bill Bailey (Sussex) have also had some productive sessions at the top including some tench to just over 4lbs.

Tuesday 27th June 2006

There has seen some more spawning activity over this last weekend and hopefully now things have completed.  There have been some good bags still producing some good catches with 10 x 20pounders banked this past week.  It is still worth floating off the surface freelining with biscuit at the moment but generally there have not been quite so many fish on the surface recently and ledgering tactics have produced well.

Largest fish for the week was off the surface by Exeter's Chris Tape pictured below.

His 25lbs 12oz specimen common  was tempted from the first swim using dog biscuit.  Chris also banked a 24lbs , a 20lbs 4oz, 2 x 18lbs, 2 x 16lbs  and 3 low doubles giving a combined bag weight of fish = 171lbs. Crediton angler Mike Izzard had another good session at Creedy this past week whilst fishing at the top end of the right hand bank.  Topping his catches was a 24lbs 12oz specimen (pictured below )common together with 13 double figure commons, an 18lbs mirror carp plus 5 tench to 5lbs 14oz (giving him a new personal best catch for a tench) and joint heaviest specimen for the week at Creedy. Mike's combined bag weight tipped the scales to 230lbs of fish - heaviest bag for the week and largest bag with 20 fish.

Pictured below is a recent catch for Mike holding his 20lbs 2oz mirror carp

Crediton's Chris Hill banked 15 fish up to 21lbs from the right hand bank, Copplestone's Phil Jefferies continues his good season with a 20lbs 10oz common. Thorverton angler Wayne Tooze ledgered boillies and landed 11 fish with 9 commons up to 19lbs.

Tiverton's Darren Short landed joint heaviest tench for the week with his plump 5lbs 14oz specimen whilst fishing mid way on the far bank.

The top lake has been fishing consistently with no signs of any further spawning activity.  The best bag reported was 9 fish with the heaviest fish, a common scaling 15lbs 2oz.

Tuesday 20th June 2006

Still the catches are coming out, some of the larger specimens banked this week with a total of 18 x 20pounders banked this past week.  There was one hectic day of spawning but for  now all has gone quiet for the moment. The corners and margins generating a lot of activity and with the very hot spells of weather that we have recently had the surface anglers have also done very well, primarily with dog biscuit. The top lake seems to have finished the spawning as there has been no visable activity now for over a week, the lilies have just started to flower and it looks very picturesque.  Several anglers have fished it recently with the lilly pads proving the fish love to hide amongst them and double sized carp up to 15lbs have been banked this past week.

Heaviest catch for the week was by  Cullompton's Jonathan Soanes who banked a cracking 26lbs 2oz mirror carp.  Jon had his best day ever at Creedy when he fished the top of right hand bank and finished his session with 22 fish in total.  Other catches included four 20's, topped by a 24lbs 10oz, a 22pounder and a pair of 20's.  The total bag weight amassed to over 350lbs of fish which sets a new record bag catch in one session at Creedy, Jon fished Billetts baits in pva with pellet. Crediton's Mike Izzard had a couple of excellent sessions this past week, once having 3 commons topped with a 25lbs common - heaviest for the week, along with a 20lbs 4oz and a 16lbs 4oz.  On his other session Mike banked 20 fish with 5 x 20pounders, after saying that his season wasn't going too well he certainly had to take that back.  Topping his bag was a 22lbs common, a 21lbs , a  20lbs 14oz and a  20lbs 8oz, together with 12 good double figure carp.  Mike also banked 4 mirrors including a pair of 18's and a 20lbs 8oz, giving him a combined bag weight of 332lbs of fish. Vic Cranfield of Copplestone banked a 24lbs 3oz common along with another double whilst fishing 3/4 way up on right hand bank.

Holiday guest Elaine Smith broke her own personal best catch when she banked a lovely 22lbs common whilst fishing on the far bank on the point swim.  Elaine also hooked 6 other commons to 16lbs. Tom Harrison of Exeter chose to fish the shelf swim on the far bank and landed a 20lbs common from near the bushes close into the margins along with  a tench. Colyton's Paul Cox banked a 23lbs 2oz common along with another common. Other good bags included Geoff Seabrook: 9 fish with 8 commons to 18lbs 10oz, Chris Williams with 11 fish to 16lbs, Ian Taylor: 7 fish with 6 carp to 13lbs, Rob Pascoe with 8 fish up to 17lbs 12oz, Phil Goodger: 6 fish, 5 commons to 15lbs 14oz plus heaviest tench for the week of 5lbs 14oz, Phil Jefferies: 7 comons, Mr R. Tuesday 13th June 2006

Again another good weeks fishing with 17 x 20pounders out on the bank this past week.  With some spawning activity on Thursday again but it did not seem to put the fish off feeding, making the margins very active with liners but also with uptakes.  Since then the fish seem more settled and they are just beginning to get their appetites back.  All three banks have seen some big fish action with the shallows and the margins being the most activity.

Cullompton's Jonathan Soanes had heaviest fish and heaviest bag when he had a cracking day whilst fishing the top swim on the right hand bank this week.  Jon managed to bank 12 fish with 5 x 20pounders in one session on Billets bait, the latest lobster and tuna flavour boillies.  Best fish was a 26lbs 13oz common, followed by a 25lbs 4oz, a 23lbs 11oz, a 23lbs 7oz, a 20lbs 13oz, a pair of 19's, and doubles of 17lbs 4oz , 16lbs 10oz, 14lbs 12oz and `12lbs 10oz - all commons plus a 13lbs 5oz mirror carp. His total bag weight came to just over 233lbs of fish.  Gloucester's Tony Johnson fished adjacent to the boathouse on the left hand bank and was well pleased with his beautiful 24lbs specimen common on sweetcorn.  Bow's Andy Norgate had the best ever session here at Creedy over the 15years he has been fishing at the venue.  Choosing to fish from the top of the right hand bank Andy topped his catches with a 23lbs 4oz common, shortly followed by a 21lbs 6oz, a 21lbs 6oz mirror carp which was heaviest for the week, and 5 other good sized double figure commons, giving a combined bag weight of 137lbs of fish. Exeter's David Tucker banked a 20lbs common along with another double plus a lovely 18lbs mirror carp. Blake Vanstone had a good day banking 8 commons during one session.  Topping his catches was a 21lbs common along with a pair of 18's , a pair of 16's and  three 14's, all were common carp.  Copplestone's Phil Jefferies banked a good pair of commons 20lbs 13oz along with a 19lbs 9oz when he fished at the top of left hand bank, Steve Greenslade(Exeter) and Phil Barrow (Cullompton) chose to fish 3/4 way up on the right hand bank and both managed to land a 20pounder each.  Barbara Brett hooked a 21lbs 3oz from right hand bank and Mel Earle fished the left bank to land heaviest tench for the week scaling 6lbs plus commons of 21lbs 10oz and 15lbs 7oz and Crediton's Geoff Seabrook banked a 20lbs mirror carp from the left hand bank Other good catches included Alex Norgate's pair of doubles to 19lbs, Anthony Shepherd: 4 double figure commons to 17lbs 9oz, Rob Pascoe 3 commons best of 17lbs 4oz, Phil Jefferies with three commons to 19lbs 7oz, Ashely Wyton with 5 doubles and London angler Jenny Chapman with a pair of doubles to 19lbs 3oz.  Phil Goodger banked an 18lbs 3oz mirror carp and on another session banked a nice 5lbs 4oz tench along with a double figure common.

Tuesday 6th June 2006

The fish have started spawning now with a lot of activity on Thursday in the top lake and Saturday in the main lake. The fishing has been a little patchy however  overall another good week's catches with 19 x 20pounders out on the bank this past week  With the weather really turning hot now a good proportion of the stock is basking on the surface during the main part of the day making the early mornings and evenings most productive unless surface fishing tactics are used mid day. Popular baits for the larger fish tend to be still the boillie and pellet combination on the ledger and dog biscuit on the surface.  The key to catching on the surface seems to be the type of line, the fluorocarbon type seems to work best as the fish seem not to notice it so much.

Heaviest fish for the week was by either Gary Taylor or Richie Taylor, father and son duo from Yeovil who fished Creedy for the first time and between them banked 6 x 20pounders.  Best catch scaled 24lbs 12oz, followed by a 23lbs 4oz, a 22lbs 4oz and 21lbs 4oz, a 20lbs 4oz,  all commons along with a mirror carp of 22lbs which was heaviest specimen for the week. Their combined bag weighed over 225lbs of fish between them whilst they fished the top corner of the right hand bank using salmon fillet boillies. Steve and Dave Cooper on holiday from Kirk Hallam, Derby banked commons of 22lbs and  a 23lbs 12oz specimen along with a 19lbs 3oz mirror carp during their week.  Stockport (Cheshire) angler Wayne Ellor continued a good week banking a 23lbs common and on another session he banked a 20lbs 8oz specimen. Well deserved.

Pictured from top to bottom:  Wayne with 20lbs 8oz, 23lbs and finally 24lbs 8oz.

First visit to Creedy for Colchester angler Kevin Brown produced a 21lbs 4oz common.  Mr R Ward of Cornwall banked a pair of commons to 20lbs 8oz whilst his fellow angler Mr L Stephens banked 3 excellent doubles to 21lbs 8oz.  Hemel Hempsted's Tim Archer returned to Creedy for his annual trip and banked a 21lbs 4oz common, Paul and Chris Noakes also had a good week with best catches of 21lbs 4oz, 21lbs 12oz and 23lbs 12oz..  Mark Baraniak set himself a new personal best catch when he banked a 22lbs 8oz common along with some good doubles and a pair of tench to 5lbs 2oz. John Brett hooked a 23lbs 4oz common whilst fishing the far bank whilst Wivelsfield angler Lawrence Neale banked a  20lbs 4oz common from the left hand bank.

Largest bag for the week was 12 fish by Chris Tape of Exeter who tempted commons to 16llbs with only 2 singles, giving a total bag weight of  over 115lbs of fish. Graham Madge had best tench catch of 6lbs  amongst a 5 tench bag.

Tuesday 30th May 2006

Another good fishing week with 18 x 20pounders recorded amongst the catches.  The fish have not started spawning yet but probably it will happen this week if the temperatures hold and the weather stays mild. There has been activity from all banks with probably the margins being most productive for ledgering.  Tactic wise float and surface fishing has really equaled  ledgering this past week with dog biscuit and pop-up boilies a favorite. Below:  13 year old Lee Brooks with his recent 26lbs 13oz common.

.

Heaviest fish for the week was held jointly, first by Exeter's Gary Tucker who fished adjacent to the boathouse on the left hand bank very tight to the margin.  Caught on his home made boilies, his fish, a 25lbs 6oz common gave him a new personal best catch and brought a smile to many other anglers who were fishing on the day. Nice one boy! Stafford angler Andy Smith was the other angler to match the top weight.  Continuing  an excellent week he persisted with his stalking tactics mainly from the shelf swim on the far bank and the island swim on the right hand bank. During his final session Andy managed to hook 21 commons making largest bag, all to dog biscuit off the surface with his best fish also tipping the scales to 25lbs 6oz.  Andy also had best bag for the week when he landed 4 20pounders during one session from the right hand bank best of 24lbs, a 19lbs 12oz and 8 other doubles, giving him a total bag weight of over 200lbs. Holiday guest Wayne Ellor of Stockport, Cheshire, started his week well when he hooked a 20lbs 8oz on his first session and the following day he banked a 24lbs 8oz from the top of the left hand bank in the shallow margins. Westward Ho's Kevin McCarthy had a good session banking 7 fish to 24lbs including a 16lbs 8oz mirror carp (heaviest for the week). Taunton angler Glen Cornish banked 5 commons to 22lbs from the left hand bank.  Chris Tape of Exeter had two good day sessions off the surface also, firstly banking 9 commons topped by a 22lbs 8oz and a 21lbs 9oz, a pair of 19's, an 18pounder and 4 low doubles.  On another session Chris banked 5 commons best of 21lbs 8oz and also a 20lbs 8oz specimen. Holiday guest Andy Gibson banked a 22lbs 2oz from 3/4 way up on right hand bank whilst South Molton angler Ken Roper who hasn't fished the lake for 3 years banked 3 good commons to 21lbs 1oz. Taunton's 12year old  junior Adam Cornish banked 3 commons to 16llbs 13oz which gave him  a new personal best catch. Crediton's Mike Izzard banked 7 common, all low doubles, Phil Troake 5 doubles to 19lbs 8oz, Richard Earle a near 20, one common scaling 19lbs 11oz, Bow's Alex Norgate 5 commons to 17lbs whilst his brother, 13 year old Kyle Norgate banked a pair of commons to 16lbs 9oz. Heaviest tench for the week was a 5lbs 8oz specimen banked by Mark Butcher of Bristol from the right hand bank whilst Truro's  Dave McGuire banked  a lovely golden tech of 4lbs.

In the top lake best common reported was by Stuart Saddler with his 4 commons from 12lbs up to 15lbs along with a pair of tench to 4lbs.  Best bag was 15 fish during one session out from the top of right hand bank fishing off the lillies which had suddenly sprouted this past fortnight.  Best tench out of the top lake was by Mick McGuire which scaled 5lbs 1oz, Blake Vanstone came close with his 5lbs specimen.

Tuesday 23rd May 2006

The best weeks fishing of the season to date with 22 big specimens out on the bank and some excellent sport all round with virtually everyone catching at the moment. The carp definitely feeding up pre spawning with active signs of the fish pairing up and being very active, also fighting really well providing some exciting sport.  All three main lake banks fishing well with several catches being picked up fairly close in to the margins, recommended baits at the moment: worm, boillies and maize.

First a pair of Vic Cranfield's common, top: 25lbs , below a 21lbs 4oz

Pictured below is South Zeal angler Chris Ryan with his 22lbs 9oz common.

Heaviest fish this week was set by 14year old junior, Lee Brooks from Crediton whilst he chose to fish the point swim on the far bank.  He hooked into his 26lbs 13oz common which gave him a new personal best catch, one that will be fairly tough to better.  Lee also had 4 other catches that session and out fished his father Gary fairly and squarely - well deserved Lee.  Westward Ho's Kevin McCarthy had his first visit at Creedy this season and tempted a lovely 26lbs 8oz common from the first swim along with 9 other commons.  Kevin also fished another day session and had largest bag for the week with 28 fish (largest this season).  Catches included commons of 21lbs, 20lbs, a pair of 18pounders and a pair of 17pounders.  Amazingly 23 of his fish were double figures and 5 of them small singles, a combined bag weight of over 300lbs of fish.  Taunton's Phil Troake had a cracking 9 fish day topping his catches was a 25lbs 6oz common and a 20lbs 8oz.  Phil also had 8 double figure carp to 19lbs 8oz and was fishing 3/4 way up on the left hand bank. Barnstaple angler Damian Dayman had not visited Creedy for 7 years after moving up to London.  On return to the area, his first return visit to Creedy produced a new personal best mirror carp of 25lbs 12oz.  Damian also had a small tench, 4 single carp and 6 good double figure carp best scaling 20lbs 8oz.  He obviously hasn't forgotten how to catch and will be back soon. Tuesday 16th May 2006

Best week so far this season with number of larger specimens, 16 20pounders in total.  All three main lake banks seem to be fishing well, possibly the mid waters producing more of the larger specimens although there have been some good catches in the shallows at the top of the right hand bank.  Due to the warm sunny weather there are numerous fish just basking on the surface enjoying the lovely weather and unless anglers are prepared to surface fish for the middle part of the day the ledger tactics are quieter during this period.  Perhaps shady tree overhangs whilst ledgering are best options fishing quite close in to the margins. A good time to fish at the moment, the fish not far off spawning seem to be feeding up a little more than usual.

The top lake continues to provide good sport with some excellent tench bags and some good double sized figure carp.  Best carp out from the top was by Exeter's Mr D. Stevens who banked 8 fish topped by an 18lbs common which was tempted off the surface.  Newton Abbott's James Highet also fished on the surface using dog biscuit to bank 3 carp the best weighing 15lbs 2oz. David Cross of Crediton banked 6 fish with some good tench to 4lbs 4oz.

The main lake has been quite consistent this past week with most anglers catching.  Cullompton's Jonathan Soanes banked heaviest fish for the week from the far bank when he landed his 25lbs 6oz specimen.  He also banked a 21lbs 12oz, a 20lbs 12oz and three other good doubles. Weston-super-mare angler Matt Cuff visited Creedy for the first time this season and had best bag when he fished the far bank.  As so many fish were basking, Matt fished dog biscuit on the surface with just the one rod and had a cracking day.  He banked a total of 19 fish during his session topped by a 24lbs specimen, a pair of 22lbs plus a 21lbs, all commons.  Cullompton's Phil Barrow fished the top of right hand bank using ledger tactics and had a 12 fish bag.  His catches included a 24pounder, one of 23lbs, two upper double figures plus 5 smaller ones together with 3 tench, using sweetcorn.  Exeter's Steve Greenslade fished Billetts boilies on the right hand swim banking 3 tench and 5 good sized carp with his best specimen scaling 22lbs 1oz.  Exeter's Steve Haydon fished the right hand bank and landed commons of 23lbs 12oz, an 18lbs 4oz, a  16lbs 6oz and a 15pounder.  South Zeal angler Chris Ryan fished in the shallows on the top of left hand bank and had his heaviest fish this season, a common carp of 22lbs 9oz using boillies. Exeter's Chris Tape banked heaviest mirror carp for the week when he hooked a lovely 21lbs 7oz mirror carp off the surface.  Chris also landed commons of 20lbs 2oz, a pair of 16's followed by a 13lbs and a 12lbs.  Wes Galliver, up from Weymuth for the day session chose to fish the first swim on the right hand bank  hooking 5 fish including 4 double figures to 20lbs 8oz.  Tony Ford also banked a 21lbs common, Steve Chamberlain had 3 doubles to 19lbs 8oz, South Molton's Paul Mayne banked three good doubles best of 18lbs 6oz, Colin Gosling (Tiverton) landed 8 fish, four of which were doubles to 19lbs 2oz.  Exeter's Mel Earle banked heaviest tench for the week with his 6lbs 11oz specimen.  In total Mel banked 5 tench along with a pair of commons to 16lbs 14oz.

Tuesday 9th May 2006

A consistent weeks fishing with 16 20pounders landing on the bank from the main lake.  All banks producing well from mid to shallow water depths and with several hot days there have been many fish basking on the surface making floating baits a desirable option.  The top lake has been a little quieter during some days but never the less proving a good day's sport venue for several anglers, especially for the tench.

Pictured below is Cullumpton's Jeff Baggs with his 22lbs catch earlier this season.

Heaviest fish for the week was banked by Copplestone's Phil Jefferies who fished 3/4 way up on left hand bank.  His only catch was a common carp which weighed in at 23lbs 5oz giving him a new personal best, caught on a ledger bait. Ian Taylor of the Exeter Angling Centre fished the far bank and hooked a nice 20lbs 4oz specimen together with a tench,  Bridgwater's Antony Cowlin landed a 20lbs common from the far bank whilst his 12year old son Luke plucked a 12lbs 8oz specimen. Norman Parkinson from Taunton fished top of the right hand bank and finished his session with 5 fish to 20lbs, Newton Abbott's Paul Courtier banked commons of 11lbs and 20lbs. Largest bag for the week was Stephen Hird of Newton Abbott who fished adjacent to the boathouse for 14 fish. His bag included 4 tench to 4lbs , a 10lbs 8oz mirror carp and 9 commons eight of which were double figures up to 19lbs 4oz.  His son Michael had 7 fish with 5 double figure commons plus a 15lbs 12oz mirror. Tuesday 25th April 2006

Mild air temperatures are now encouraging water temperatures to rise and this in turn has encouraged a lot more fish activity which is visible on the surface.  There have been nine 20pounders on the bank this past week and due to the fact that there have been more fish nearer the surface, floating tactics have certainly paid off for those who have the patience.

Heaviest fish of the week was banked by Crediton's Chris Hill with his only catch of the day.  His common carp tipped the scales to just over 24lbs.  Chris also did another session and fished the first swim to bank 5 commons to just over 20lbs along with an attractive mirror carp.  Another Crediton angler Mike Barlow fished the boathouse bank and banked a good pair of commons scaling 17lbs 8oz and followed with a 23lbs 6oz specimen getting his Creedy season off to a good start. Copplestone's Vic Cranfield banked a new personal best catch at the lakes when he landed two fish.  Fishing from the right hand bank his catches scaled 11lbs 8oz and 21lbs 4oz. A warm welcome to the new season which got off to a chilly slow start.  Early morning ice on the surface of the main lake has restricted fishing for the first few mornings.  By around 11am however the thaw has occurred and all areas were fishable. Water temperatures are still low and are not much above freezing.  The past day has seen warmer air temperatures and no frost which has encouraged more fish activity on the surface and definitely looks more promising.

First big catch of the season was banked by Launceston's Dave Coumbe who fished the first swim on right hand bank.  He tempted his 21lbs 8oz common carp with a pop-up boillie.  During another day session Dave banked a 16lbs common.  Fellow Launceston angler Mr Farrer banked a pair of single figure carp , again from the shallower waters fishing the first peg on the right. Weston-super-mare angler David Clewer banked a nice 17lbs 12oz common and fellow angler Andy Harper tempted a 15lbs 2oz specimen common.

Exeter's Brant Wells was the first to fish the top lake and landed best bag of the week with his three fish catch, all commons scaling 7lbs 12oz, 10lbs 4oz and 11lbs.  Brant fished the far bank mid way.

Wednesday 22nd February

Creedy is all set for for it's new season,  re-opening next Wednesday 1st March 2006.  There has been the usual maintenance works during the closed period with the paths resealed and the wood trimmed from the swims.  This year we have also thinned both the main and top lakes of smaller fish (up to 8lbs) which should reduce the competition for food amongst the fish and hopefully this will be reflected by  some good growth rate increases this season.

There are no new rule changes or price increases from last year.  Day tickets are £6 per person (fishing 1 or 2 rods), £9 per person (3 rods).  Evening tickets are £3 and £5 respectively.

We look forward to welcoming everyone again and hope that this season will hook into some big specimens.
