Tuesday 1st  July 2008

A cracking weeks fishing with 24 of the larger specimen carp out on the bank this past week of 20lbs plus along with some nice sized tench.  The majority of the catches seem to be coming from the leger tactics with not many fish being tempted with surface baits.  There was a flurry of spawning activity last Friday morning but that now seems to be the last of it - hopefully!.  The main lake has a slight green algae colour but the top lake is chocolate brown at present. There has been some excellent sport reported up at the top and well worth a visit for a more active consistent days fishing.

Heaviest catch for the week was banked by Somerset holiday angler Paul Beames who got his week off to a great start.  Paul fished 2/3 way up on the boathouse bank and tempted a beautiful 26lbs common using leger tactics.  Paul also hooked one of 22lbs, plus an 18pounder, one of 14lbs and one of 9lbs along with a pair of green tench.  Cullompton's Jonathan Soanes found the shallow margins at the top of the boat house bank were most productive banking a total of 12 fish.  Topping his bag was a 24lbs 12oz specimen, followed by a 21lbs 6oz, one of 19lbs 3oz a pair of 17's, three at 16lbs  and two single figures. His total bag weight came to 190lbs of fish and using Billetts bait.  Cullompton's Lee Marchant reported a good session from 1/3 way up on the right hand bank with 7 fish up to 23lbs, all common carp.  Sussex guest, Lawrence Neale banked a nice 23lbs specimen when he fished 1/2 way up on the boathouse bank amid a 3 fish bag.  Exeter angler Tony Ford fished scopex boillies and banked 4 commons up to 23lbs along with an attractive 18lbs mirror carp.  James of Barnstaple had two very good day sessions at Creedy, once banking a total of 8 carp including comon of 22lbs and 21lbs along with a pair of green tench up to 7lbs - heaviest tench for the week.  On his other session James banked 6 commons including a pair of 20's, one of 14lbs, a par of 11lbs plus a single figure common. Tavistock's Kyle Waterhouse hooked 3 commons topped with a 22lbs and a 19lbs plus a single figure.  Exeter's Andy Western chose to fish the shelf swim on the far bank and reported heaviest mirror carp.  His largest specimen scaled 22lbs exactly, Andy also banked mirrors of 17lbs 6ox and 16lbs 4oz which is fairly unusual.  Andy fished using Billetts boillies and  also tempted a pair of good sized commons 21lbs 8oz and 15lbs 8oz. Barnstaple's Ali Laird fished the far bank and recorded three good fish, topping his bag was a 22lbs 2oz specimen followed with commons of 16lbs and 13lbs.  Paignton angler Mark Owen had a prolific session whilst fishing the boathouse bank.  In total Mark landed 11 fish and topping his catches was a specimen mirror of 22lbs.  Mark also banked 8 good sized doubles plus two singles and his total bag weight came to 162lbs of fish.  Lawrence Neale also recorded some other good days this past week with an 11 fish bag up to 19lbs (including one 6lbs mirror and one 5lbs tench), a 9 fish day with one tench plus 8 commons up to 21lbs and a 6 fish day, all commons up to 19lbs 2oz,  fishing mainly from the boathouse bank. Exeter's David Cameron banked 9 fish during one day session with 4 singles, one 12lbs mirror carp and large carp of 16lbs, 17lbs , 18lbs 10oz and 20lbs 8oz giving him a total bag weight of 127lbs of fish. St Austell angler Mike Body preferred to fish off the surface and had two good sessions, firstly landing a total of 9 fish  - 8 of which were doubles topped by a 20lbs 6oz and a 21lbs 6oz.  On Mike's other day he had 9 commons up to 21lbs and a mirror carp of 14lbs 13oz.

Plymouth angler Gary Beasley fished Billetts boillies and set himself a new personal best catch when he landed a total of 6 fish up to 21lbs 6oz also including one of 20lbs 12oz from 1/3 way up on the right hand bank. East Brent angler, 16 year old Martin Stephens was well pleased with his 4 fish day including 3 doubles up to 16lbs 2oz which gave him a new personal best fish.  Martin definitely out fished his dad who banked just the one catch, a 12lbs 6oz common carp. Plymouth angler Matt Anstiis wrote that the journey was well worth it when he hooked 7 fish but landed 3 fish.  Matt however did bank commons of 21lbs 5oz, 16lbs 5oz and 12lbs 2oz using Billetts baits.  Okehampton angler Peter Welham fished the far bank and landed a 19lbs common along with a 4lbs green tench, Crediton's Phil Tucker banked 3 commons to 17lbs 2oz whilst his brother Gary also hooked 3 commons up to 18bs 4oz.  Copplestone's Allan Hull fished the first swim on hte right hand bank and landed a 21lbs 3oz common plus a lovely 6lbs tench. In the top lake there has been some great bags reported and largest bag went to Mr Arthur Reed with a total of 30 fish up to 5lbs 8oz plus a nice, dark green tench 3lbs 5oz which almost looked black.

Tuesday 24th June 2008

Fishing form remains encouraging with some good sized bags out this week and 13 x 20pounders safely landed on the bank out from the main lake.  The boathouse stretch on the left bank and the aerator swims being very active some days whilst the shallower waters not proving quite so productive this past week.  Up in the top lake there have been some good  double figure carp plus good sized green tench.  The deeper to mid waters again have been more productive with the old luncheon meat proving to be a temptation for the fish.

Heaviest common for the week was by Torquay angler Gordon Batt who fished Billetts bait to tempt a total of 7 carp up to 26lbs exactly.  Gordon's catches, all common carp ranged from 13lbs upwards and his total  bag weight came to 123lbs of fish.  Catch of the week however must go to Crediton junior Jack Grinney who also fished Billetts bait.  The 5 year old budding angler out fished his dad, Wayne, when he hooked a 22lbs 8oz common along with 4 other carp.  Jack fished 3/4 way up on the right hand bank and this big set him a new personal best record.  His dad Wayne, give him due, did come close with his 22lbs 2oz common catch.  Wayne also banked a 20lbs 10oz and in total had 15 fish. Heaviest bag for the week was banked by Barnstaple builder Damien Dayman who had over 200lbs of fish during a session.  Amid Damien's bag were commons scaling 21lbs 12oz and 20lbs 8oz and all whilst he was fishing adjacent to the boathouse.  His pal, North Devon's Adrian Mills also recorded some good action with 7 commons to 21lbs 2oz.  Largest bag for the week was 21 commons reported by Tavistock's Kyle Waterhouse.  Kyle was fishing the first swim on the right hand bank and also stalking on the left bank amongst shallower water and his catches ranged from 4lbs up to 16lbs. Largest mirror carp for the week was by Sussex angler Lawrence Neale who tempted a 22lbs 12oz specimen. Lawrence also tempted 5 commons up to 16lbs whilst fishing towards the top of the left bank, picture below.

Other good catches:  Mr D. Jenkins of Barnstaple with 6 double figure commons best of 22lbs 2oz,  Cullompton's Lee Marchant who banked a 24lbs common carp from the third swim on right hand bank, James from Barnstaple banked 5 commons including a pair of 20's up to 21lbs 10oz, Taunton angler Chris Meikle fished at the top of right bank with 5 commons best weighing 22lbs 8oz. Tuesday 17th June 2008

In the main lake another good weeks fishing reported with 15 x 20pounders landed safely on the bank.  Fishing form has been varied with some days being very productive and other days providing quite challenging sport.  The majority of the catches have been taken by leger baits but when conditions are right the  surface has provided some excellent results.  Pretty much anything is going bait wise at the moment, it's well worth bringing a choice as preferred baits do vary from day to day.  In the top lake there have been some good low double commons tempted and with not that great a number of anglers present on the top water has meant that there is a great choice of swim.  The deeper end of the top lake has been more productive recently with luncheon meat being a very popular bait.

Heaviest catch for this week was banked by Taunton angler Chris Meikle whilst fishing on the right hand bank.  Chris totaled a 12 fish bag and topping his catches was a superb 28lbs 12oz common carp which also gave him a new personal best catch.  Chris also banked a 21lbs 4oz , a pair of 14's, one of 13lbs 8oz, one of 10lbs plus five carp ranging between 7 - 8lbs.  Chris also banked a good sized  green tench for the week which scaling 5lbs 8oz and his total bag weight amounted to 138lbs of fish.

Largest bag for the week was gained by holiday guest Paul Noakes whilst  surface fishing, he tempted a total of 18 fish.  Topping his catches were common of 21lbs 4oz and 20lbs 6oz and other sizeable catches included an 18lbs 12oz and a 17lbs 4oz and his bag weight was edging towards 200lbs of fish.  Paul was fishing on the left hand bank just before the boathouse amid mid to shallow waters where there seemed to be 100's of fish just basking on the surface.  Congratulations also go to Paul and his lovely wife, Kim, who will be celebrating their silver wedding anniversary this coming weekend, well done from all at Creedy.  Cullompton's Jonathan Soanes continues a good season having heaviest bag this week when he landed 17 fish all of which were common carp.  Topping his bag were specimens of 23lbs 6oz and 20lbs 7oz. Other catches included a pair of 19's, a pair of 18's, three at 17lbs+ with just three of his catches being single figure.  John' s total bag weight of fish that session amassed 266lbs.

Exeter angler Randolph Velterop fished his first session at Creedy this past week and was well pleased with his one fish which tipped the scales to 27lbs exactly.  His specimen was tempted from the shallow marginal waters at the top of the left hand bank.  His cracking specimen is pictured below:

Crediton carpenter James Stagg recorded another good session at Creedy when he landed two fish topped by a 25lbs 2oz common carp.  James also banked another double figure carp which weighed 11lbs exactly.  Newton Abbott angler Geoff Waring banked  4 good sized fish from the left hand bank this past week including a pair of good specimens scaling 27lbs and 21lbs together with doubles of 15lbs and 12lbs.   Glen Cornish reported a 6 fish bag with 5 common carp up to 21lbs 11oz this past week. Tuesday 10th June 2008

Another good weeks fishing returns with 24 x 20pounders seen out on the bank this past week.  Weather conditions have returned to being favorable for spawning to finish and now hopefully the majority of the fish have spawned out.  There have been large amounts of fish basking on the surface which are not particularly interested in taking floaters during the hottest period.  The ledger has proved the favorite method of catching this past week although largest fish was taken off from the surface. Worms and maggot, boillies, corn and large pellets have been the most popular hook baits, biscuits being the surface choice. The aerator pump is still going strong and has maintained minimal or no algae bloom which has been a blessing.  The pump seems to be a popular spot for the fish to hang out and they seem to love the churning of the water and it certainly makes them more lively.

Heaviest catch of the week was banked by Dave Parnell when he set himself a new personal best record catch as he landed a 26lbs 12oz common carp. The Torquay angler fished dog biscuit on the surface -Picture below.

Dave O'Brien had his best day at Creedy so far when he banked 7 good fish, all commons.  Topping his catches was a 24lbs 8oz specimen followed by a 20lbs 11oz and a 20lbs 8oz.  All his other catches were double figures from 12lbs to 19lbs 12oz. The combined fish bag weight came to 129lbs of fish. Pictured below is Dave's best catch that session, the 24lbs 8oz common carp.

Largest & heaviest bag for the week was logged by Cullompton's Jonathan Soanes who hooked and landed a total of 13 fish whilst fishing in the aerator swim on the right hand bank. Johns top fish included a pair of 19's, a pair of 18's a pair of 17's , six other doubles plus one single figure of 7lbs - his total bag weight totaled 208lbs of fish.  Another good bag was recorded by  Crediton angler Mike Izzard who again had an excellent session.  In total Mike tempted 12 commons including three large specimens scaling 23lbs 2oz, 22lbs 10oz and one of 20lbs 1oz. His other 9 commons were all double figures and his total bag weight came to just over 200lbs of fish. His top three catches are pictured:

Halberton angler Kim Garnsworthy gained himself a new personal best this past week, beating last weeks record by 1lbs 11oz.  Kim's one fish tipped the scales to 23lbs 11oz and certainly brought a big smile to his face, well done.  Crediton's Stuart Greenslade landed a nice catch when he banked his common which clocked the scales to 22lbs 10oz.  Paignton's Mark Owen reported a 10 fish bag with 4 single commons, a 21lbs 2oz, a pair of 18's, one of 15lbs and one of 14lbs 2oz.  Mark also banked a plump 5lbs 5oz green tench - heaviest for the week.  Newton Abbott angler Geoff Waring banked an excellent days catches when he totaled 12 commons plus a 4lbs 10oz green tench.  His commons were topped off with a 20lbs 10oz, a 20lbs 8oz and a 20lbs 2oz and that was his most productive session at Creedy for some time. A mention for holiday guest Paul Noakes who got his week's holiday off to a good start when he banked 7 commons up to 16lbs and a mention for Alan Smith who has recently undergone a course of radiotherapy. Alan had a tough week but managed to bank two doubles up to 17lbs along with a 3lbs tench on his best session.  We all wish Alan a brighter future health wise and hope that his break wasn't too exhausting.

Northants angler Ian Pateman, formerly of Exeter, hooked himself a new personal best catch whilst catching up with family this past week.  Ian fished midway on the far bank and landed two commons to 24lbs 4oz. Bridport angler Chris Jones also recorded a new personal best catch when he landed his big carp, a 21lbs 12oz common.  Chris also hooked 3 other double figure commons up to 15lbs.  John Crotty chose to do a spot of surface fishing and managed to sneak a 21lbs 3oz common off the top, Exeter angler Mark Lodge fished 3/4 way up on right hand bank and hooked two good specimens weighing 22lbs 8oz and 21lbs. Staffs visitor Andy Smith had an excellent result with three more 20pounders out during his break at Creedy this past week.

Father and son Morris and Lee Marchant of Cullompton had their best day at Creedy whilst fishing the 3rd swim on the right hand  bank.  Between them they landed 7 commons topped with one of 25lbs, also accompanied by a 21lbs, 5 double figures plus heaviest mirror carp for the week scaling 20lbs exactly. A mention also for Barnstaple angler Richard Harman who banked a nice green tench scaling 5lbs  fishing 1/2 way up on the right hand bank.

Tuesday 3rd June 2008

An excellent weeks fishing with 23 of the larger specimens on the bank and still the big fish  have not spawned out as of yet.  Large shoals of fish are grouping and just milling around mid water not particularly interested in feeding during the hottest spells of the day therefore well worth ledgering in the shallow and marginal areas.  The aerator pump is going to compensate for lower oxygen levels and fortunately the algae bloom has been kept at bay to date.

Topping all catches with heaviest fish this week was Adam Shorts mirror carp which tipped the scales to 27lbs 8oz.  The Bideford angler had a 9 fish bag in total with a pair of good sized commons weighing 21lbs and 20lbs 6oz.  Other catches included a pair of 14lbs , a pair of 13lbs plus a pair of 10pounders giving a total bag weight of over 143lbs of fish. Heaviest common for the week was Mike Body's catch which gave him a new personal best catch when he landed this 25lbs 13oz specimen pictured below:

The St Austell angler had an 'awesome day' he reported with his catches tempted on floaters, boillies, pellets and sweetcorn - the only bait he didn't use was maggots.  His persistent hard work paid handsomely when he also banked a 20lbs common, 6 other low doubles, one 7lbs 12oz plus a pair of 3lbs green tench. Mike said he had a great learning curve during this past week as he camped on site during his week's holiday as he learnt the art of ledger fishing at Creedy.  Normally a surface only tactic angler Mike spent a portion of time speaking to other anglers and learning new ideas which certainly paid off. During another day session Mike banked a total of 11 fish, ten common carp topped by a 21lbs 15oz and a 21lbs 11oz and including a mirror carp of 18lbs 10oz.  Using Billetts boillies his total bag weight came to a grand total of 161lbs of fish. Cullompton's Jonathan Soanes had largest bag for the week when he fished the third swim on right hand bank hooking a total of 21 fish - 19 of which were common carp. His top four fish scaled 24lbs 12oz, 23lbs 9oz, 23lbs 4oz and 21lbs 11oz but he also had ten fish over 16lbs and his total bag weight amounted to 321lbs of fish - a bag record for 2008 so far. Jon also had an excellent 7lbs 6oz green tench - heaviest tench out this season and just short of the lake record by 2 ounces. Halberton angler Kim Garnsworthy had his best day session at Creedy when he fished his red devil boillies amid shallow water on the top of right hand bank.  His 6 commons all fell to boillies and his largest specimen - a 22lbs common pictured - scaled 22lbs exactly.

Chris Roberts continues an impressive season and pictured here below is his 24lbs common which was caught from  far bank. Chris also hooked commons of 21lbs, 16lbs, 12lbs and 10lbs.

Roger Bowskill of Exeter reported an excellent day's fishing from the far bank when he tempted a bag of 18 fish - all commons including three 20pounders.  Topping Roger's bag was a 23lbs specimen. He well out fished his son Jeremy who fished the opposite side of the lake and banked 4 double figure commons up to 15lbs. Crediton angler Mike Izzard is well on track to better last seasons record big fish catch.  This past week Mike banked a total of 16 fish with his largest specimen being a beautifully colored 22lbs 8oz common carp - pictured below.

Minehead angler Tim Woodbridge fished on the shelf swim on the far bank and hooked a total of 4 fish including three low doubles and a 20lbs 2oz common.  Newton Abbott's Dave O'Brien fished the top of left hand bank and landed a 23lbs specimen along with a pair of single figure commons.  Okehampton duo, father and son Tony and Tim Short reported  an active day session on the right hand bank.  Tony banked 6 commons in total using floating and legering tactics his fish scaling 22lbs, 20lbs, 17lbs, a pair of 13lbs plus one of 8lbs - just short of 94lbs of fish.  His son Tim banked commons of 20lbs, 18lbs 8oz, 16lbs, 15lbs 8oz and 13lbs 4oz - a bag weight of just over 83lbs of fish. Greenfield of Newton Abbott banked 4 double figures up to 17lbs.  A mention for 8 year old Sophie Batt who banked a lovely 9lbs common carp all on her own whilst she fished alongside her dad Gordon - well done Sophie.

Not many anglers have chosen to fish the top lake but for those who did were rewarded with some good action.  Heaviest fish out of the top was banked by St Austell's Mike Body when he banked a 16lbs 15oz common carp.

A fair weeks fishing at Creedy wtih 7 x 20pounders out on the bank.  Action has been from the mid to shallow water depths alternating from the right and left bank mainly.

Heaviest fish for the week was tempted by Crediton angler Gary Brooks when he fished the far bank to hook this beauty of a specimen, a 24lbs common. Pictured below:

Gary tempted his catch on using ledger boillie tactics whilst fishing up the finger from the far bank.  Another Crediton angler Mike Izzard banked a good specimen which scaled 23lbs 10oz.  Mike hooked a total of 4 fish in his bag banking another big specimen of 20lbs 2oz along with a pair of low doubles.  These large specimens now notch Mike's total up to 16 specimens over 20lbs this season already (last season Mike banked a total of 32 carp over the 20lbs mark) so his impressive angling seems to be the target to beat so far - well done Mike.  Pictured below is the 23lbs 10oz and followed by the 20lbs 2oz.

Sandford angler Mike Turner hooked himself a new personal best catch when he tempted his big fish, a common of 22lbs 7oz,  Mike also banked 3 other double figure commons. Tuesday 20th May 2008

No signs of spawning activity this past week probably due to cooler temperatures and if those north easterly winds continue things will no doubt be put on hold until conditions recover and become favorable.  Most of the action this past week has been again on the ledger presentation with many of the catches coming from the marginal waters.  Water colour is fair and thankfully there are no signs of green algae bloom hence the aerator pump has been put back onto the timer.  Bag sizes have varied drastically with some anglers really struggling and others seem to do nothing wrong.  Largest bag reported was 24 fish with several bags of 10 or more.

Heaviest fish out for the week was a 26lbs 2oz specimen common caught by Crediton angler Geoff Seabrook along with a 4lbs tench. Geoff fished at the top of right hand bank legering an 18mm Meteor boillie fished in conjunction with ultramix pellet soaked in salmon oil, the catch didn't quite beat his personal best catch but maybe next time. Well done Geoff.  Picture below:

Largest bag for the week was banked by Crediton's Chris Hill with his 25 fish when he fished in the first swim on the right bank.  Of his catches 24 were commons up to 18lbs in weight together with  heaviest mirror carp for the week of 17lbs.  Another Crediton angler Mike Izzard continues momentum in his 2008 season with a 10 fish bag, all commons up to 25lbs 1oz. Mike also banked another big specimen during that session scaling 21lbs exactly along with a 19lbs 6oz, one of 18lbs 4oz plus six other double figures - his total bag weight amassing just under 169lbs of fish. Mike's 25lbs specimen pictured below:

Plymouth angler Chris Nuttall struck it lucky when he paid a visit to Creedy landing a total of 12 fish during his day session. Amid his bag Chris tempted 4 big specimens over 20lbs , best weighing 22lbs exactly, six other commons and a pair of green tench.  Fellow angling companion, Alex Fitzgerald of Newton Abbott banked a total of 12 commons  best scaling 18lbs.  Exeter's Roger Bowskill hooked a total of 6 fish one session, 5 commons up to 24lbs in weight along with a tench whilst fishing the far bank. Tuesday 13th May 2008

The fish have commenced spawning in the main lake and certainly are preoccupied but at the same time also very hungry.  The tench seem to have finished spawning now and carp have been spotted mopping up eggs and frog spawn in the margins.  Still however a good time to fish with 27 x 20pounders out on the bank this past week so the larger specimens seem to be fairly hungry at present. There has been no reports of spawning activity in the top lake as of yet but no doubt they will be going soon. Bait wise pretty much anything is being eaten at the moment.

Heaviest fish for the week was a cracking 27lbs specimen common which was banked by Si Jeffs.  The Minehead angler had an exceptional day banking three 20pounders during his day session along with a 4lbs tench, his catches included an impressive 25lbs 5oz and one of 21lbs.

Another big catch was this 26lbs common specimen which was caught by Chris Roberts - pictured below, this catch being his second best fish. The Ilfracombe angler also banked a good sized 5lbs green tench plus a 16lbs common.

Tuesday 6th May 2008

The weeks fishing has been fair with the larger specimens with 10 x 20pounders out on all three banks.  Although bag numbers have not been great the largest bag was 24 fish during one session.  This week definitely the margins are producing some of those bigger specimens with maggots proving popular along with pellets and boillies.  There have been a few fish snacking off the surface and now with warmer weather promised this is probably the best time to try surface fishing.

Largest common for the week was banked by Tony Knight when he tempted his 24lbs 8oz catch.  This fish gives the Exeter angler a new personal best catch and was also accompanied by one of 17lbs 8oz. Exeter steel piler Pete Durnian fished at the top of the left hand bank amid shallower water in the margins and tempted two commons best scaling 22lbs 9oz.  Taunton angler Jon Cole fished the far bank aiming for mid water and banked a pair of tench plus a 22lbs 5oz specimen.  Fellow Taunton angler Glen Cornish fished the point swim of the far bank and landed a total of 6 commons all of which were double figures.  Topping his bag was a 21lbs 14oz common followed by a pair of 18's, a 15lbs 8oz, one of 14 and one of 10lbs 14oz.  Crediton's Chris Hill fished the first swim on right hand bank and tempted several carp during one day session, his best catch tipped the scales to 20lbs 12oz. Crediton's Mike Izzard banked 6 doubles this week with his top two fish scaling 20lbs 2oz and 17lbs 6oz.  Our heartfelt condolences go out to Mike who has recently and very suddenly lost his wife. Tuesday 29th April 2008

Some of the larger specimens still being tempted out from the main lake and although the fishing can be vastly changeable from day to day there have been catches up to 10 fish.  Some of the recent catches have started to come off the surface which is well worth trying when the ledger action is quiet.  There are still several catches being tempted in the marginal areas in the shallower regions and off the central island.  The top lake has has provided some good action when the main lake seems a little slower during the late morning period with some good mid doubles reported.

Heaviest fish out from the main lake this past week was banked by Chris Roberts.  He certainly had something to smile about and not only because it was his birthday.  Chris chose to fish mid way on the far bank and tempted this attractive mirror carp (pictured below) which tipped the scales to 28lbs 2oz and gave him a new personal best catch. This more than makes up for his loss last week (his fellow angling mate, Luke,  caught a 20pounder on his rod whilst he returned to the car park very briefly).

Banbury holiday guest Ray Collins reported an enjoyable relaxing week and left the best till last when during his final day session at Creedy Ray banked a pair of 20's.  Ray's largest catch, a 26lbs 10oz common (heaviest common of the week) was tempted from the margins when he fished the left hand bank. He also banked one of 20lbs 2oz, 4 other commons plus a sizeable eel.  Pentwan angler Oliver Evans returned to Creedy for his first visit of the season and reported a brilliant day. The Minehead angler banked 8 commons including a 23lbs 1oz, a 20lbs 9oz plus 5 doubles and one single common, one mirror over 20lbs and a small tench.  In his flurry of action  Tim's scales broke but the catches that were weighed amounted to over 149lbs of fish. Copplestone's Phil Tucker also reported a 10 fish bag with 8 commons up to 16lbs 4oz and a pair of green tench.  Ian Dowie decided to travel light and do some surface tactics with bread as bait, tempting himself a new personal best catch, a 21lbs 4oz common.  Kim Garnsworthy gained a new personal best catch when he successfully banked a 20lbs 8oz common. Kim also tempted 5 other commons including a 16lbs 8oz and a 15lbs 12oz carp. In the top lake on another session Mike Body hooked a 14lbs 9oz (heaviest fish for the week) along with a 17lbs specimen out from the main lake.

Tuesday 22nd April 2008

Some of the largest fish moving this past week with the catch returns including heaviest fish this season to date out from the main lake.  Bag sizes have varied drastically up to 11 fish and on other days struggling to tempt one fish.  However catches being tempted from mainly the mid water depths and the margin areas with pellets, boillies and corn seeming to do the business.  The top lake has provided some good sport again with some good low and mid double figure carp - heaviest scaling 16lbs.

Heaviest common for the week and in fact for 2008 was banked by Minehead angler Tim Woodbridge.  Tim fished the top swim on the right hand bank into shallow water depths and tempted his specimen common which tipped the scales to 29lbs 6oz.  Tim also banked another biggie, a 22lbs 8oz common - picture of 29lbs 6oz below:

Exeter's Roger Bowskill found the boathouse bank productive, Roger fished 1/2 way up casting towards the central island and was quickly into his first catch of his session, a 28lbs common carp.  Roger also landed commons of 18lbs, 17lbs, a pair of 14's, one of 12lbs and one of 11lbs - a total of 7 fish which amassed to a bag weight of over 114lbs of fish.  Brothers Mark and George Osborne of Congresbury chose to fish at the top of the left hand bank, later then moving into mid water after a slow start.  George eventually landed just the one fish - a lovely 27lbs 11oz specimen common from open mid water.  Taunton web designer and computer specialist Clive Franklin fished 2/3 way up on right hand bank and had joint largest bag of 7 fish in total.  Topped by  a 26lbs 4oz common Clive also banked 3 double figures to 19lbs 7oz, a pair of singles plus a  23 pounder - a total bag weight of nearly 116lbs of fish which was heaviest bag for the week.   Pictured below is Clive's 23lbs 8oz specimen common.

Picture

A mention for Chris Roberts of Ilfracombe who was gutted when he left his mate, Luke, overseeing his rods during a toilet break.  When he returned Luke Naylor had banked a 22lbs 8oz common.  Sadly that was the only action for the pair of them.

Damian Rollings paid his first ever visit to Creedy with his brother Darren and landed himself a new personal best catch when he tempted his 20lbs 4oz specimen.  Damian also banked commons of 14lbs 10oz, 13lbs 2oz and 10lbs 6oz - it's likely that Darren might not bring Damian again, certainly not in the near future anyway.  Copplestone's Vic Cranfield fished the right hand bank and reported a 19lbs 15oz specimen, Torquay angler Gordon Batt banked  a 19lbs common and a mention for Crediton junior Adam Hodgkins was well pleased with his one fish which tipped the scales to 15lbs 2oz

Tuesday 8th April 2008

Overall a better weeks fishing surprisingly amongst the bitter cold windy days and the flurries of snow which certainly did at times stimulate the fish to feed.  Bag sizes were larger at times (of up to 10 fish) with other times quite sporadic.  The larger fish still being tempted by mainly boillies albeit over mixed pellet beds, in pva stocking or bags or just on a stringer.  The fish have even begun to nibble at surface baits and have been very visible and generally more active.

Tuesday 1st April 2008

A tougher weeks fishing from both the main and top lake at Creedy.  With very little signs of fish topping and jumping it has been a challenge to even decide where to fish for some anglers, the boathouse bank and the right hand bank have being most popular with the anglers

Heaviest fish for the week was banked by Burt Collins when he chose to fish the first swim on the right hand bank.  After a slow start the Exeter angler still decided to sit tight and wait. Burt legered amid the margins under the tree line to his right and tempted 2 fish topped by his big specimen - a 26lbs 14oz common, his other catch was a 14lbs common carp.  Newton Abbott  roofer John Fenlon continues his magic and fished the left hand bank some way up past the boathouse.  He landed one tench along with a pair of 20pounder commons - scaling 26lbs 8oz and 21lbs 14oz.  On another day session John banked three doubles best of 19lbs 8oz along with a tench.   Ali Baker out fished her partner Dave Grylls when he hooked two commons this week, firstly banking one of 11lbs 2oz followed by a 22lbs 9oz specimen. Other sizeable bags included Newton Abbott's Geoff Waring with his 5 fish (ranging from 9lbs to 18lbs 8oz equaling 67lbs of fish) and during another day sesison Geoff banked 3 good sized commons topped with a pair of 18pounders.  Crediton's Phil Tucker banked 5 fish including 4 doubles with his largest fish weighing 17lbs 10oz. A reasonable weeks fishing with generally some larger bags of fish reported from all three  banks of the main lake.  The chilly winds and cold weather did not however dampen spirits for those anglers who put on their thermal suits  for some angling sport.  Bristol angler Dean Goodwill couldn't go wrong when he decided to fish mid way on the right hand bank at Creedy this past week.  Using pop-up boillies fished in conjunction with pellet in pva bags his tactics tempted a grand total of 13 fish all of commons.  His heaviest catch tipped the scales to 22lbs 7oz, followed by carp of 19lbs,18lbs,17lbs, a pair of 15lbs three low doubles and four single figures.  His total bag weight amounted to 158lbs of fish - heaviest bag for the week. Pictured below is the specimen 22lbs 7oz followed by ones of 19lbs and 18lbs.

Largest bag for the week was banked by Crediton's Chris Hill who fished the 3rd swim on the right hand bank.  Using the Billetts boillies Chris hooked a toat of 14 fish all of which were commons up to 18lbs 8oz.  Paul Wood of Newton Abbott had his best day at Creedy so far with the wind blowing up to the finger  fishing the shallow waters at the top of the left hand bank.  His bag comprised of 4 common carp weighing 15lbs 1oz, 18lbs 3oz, 18lbs 7oz and topped by one of 21lbs 13oz.  Brother, Dave Wood of Kingsteignton fished slightly lower down from Paul and reported a good day session with 3 nice catches, all commons scaling 14lbs 6oz, 16lbs 9oz and topped with a 20lbs 11oz specimen. Fellow Torquay angling companion Dave Parnell had two commons to 15lbs 3oz.  Exeter's Martin Bennett fished mid way on the right hand bank and landed a total of 8 fish, 7 of which were double figures.  Topping his bag were a pair of  18lbs 4oz common carp followed with a 17lbs 4oz, one of 16lbs 8oz, 15lbs 8oz, 15lbs 4oz, a 13lbs 8oz and a single figure.  Martin's combined fish weight bag amounted to 120lbs of fish - his top three catches photographed below in order of heaviest first.

Heaviest catch for the week, a 25lbs common was reported was by Bodmin angler Darren Palmer.  Darren was fishing adjacent to the old boathouse on the left hand bank amid deep water when he tempted his one catch which gave him a new personal best catch.  Crediton decorator Paul Gribble banked a lovely looking specimen common which tiipped the scales to 22lbs 8oz. Heaviest mirror carp of 20lbs 8oz was banked by Copplestone's Phil Tucker.  Phil fished in the first swim on the right hand bank and his 7 fish bag consisted of 5 double figures and a pair of singles - well deserved catches Phil.  Tiverton angler Wayne Richards fished 3/4 way up on the right hand bank and was pleased with his new personal best catch, a 23lbs 2oz common using Billetts boillies.  Newton angler Jason Greenfield recorded a 5 fish bag of all good sized common carp and a total bag weight of over 77lbs of fish with his heaviest catch scaling 20lbs 4oz along with a pair of 18lbs , one of 16 and one of 14lbs.  Mr M. Williams reported a cold day but managed to bank a 20lbs 8oz specimen common over the weekend, Myles Gerrard of Tiverton fished the point swim on the far bank and landed a nice 18lbs 2oz specimen.  Minehead junior, Tom McGowan fished the boathouse bank and was rewarded with a total of 6 fish when he legered maggots, his largest catches were a pair of 14 pounders.  North Tawton angler John Grayling reported a 3 fish bag with a single and a pair of commons to 19lbs 1oz and Exeter's Roger Bowskill banked 4 low to mid doubles.

Tuesday 18th March 2008

Fierce winds and heavy rainfall has made weather conditions somewhat less appealing but for all those who did venture out the fishing was very rewarding. Action has been seen on all three of the main lake banks with some good sport also being had out of the top lake. This past week have seen some good larger catches including heaviest fish out on the bank which equaled last years record catch. Overall a better weeks fishing all round with some larger sized bag catches.

Heaviest fish for the week was banked by Crediton's  Steven Hill when he landed his 29lbs 4oz common - pictured below.

Steve fished 3/4 way up on the right hand bank amid mid water depths using Billetts boillies, the latest peach n plum with secret agent flavor.  This catch does equal the largest catch of last season of the same weight (29lbs 4oz) but that was a mirror carp which was caught by Exeter's Roger Bowskill.  So potentially this early season catch could go much heavier during the pre spawning period, lets watch this space.

Newton Abbott angler John Fenlon seems to be setting the pace for Creedy this year.  He banked a cracking specimen common which tipped the scales to 25lbs exactly which tallies is big fish catches to 4 x 20 pounders this season.  During other sessions John banked  a 20lbs 14oz common and the following day landed 3 fish scaling 10lbs 2oz, 12lbs 8oz and topping his catches was an 18lbs 4oz common. Street angler Mr C. Davis visited Creedy for the first time this season and landed a lovely looking common which weighed 24lbs 9oz whilst fishing along the right hand bank.  Holiday guest Liam Wall tempted some good mid upper doubles and also one of 21lbs 12oz this past week. Darren Baker and Adam Phillips of Bridgwater enjoyed a good day session with some larger catches including common of 21lbs, 20lbs, 19lbs and 18lbs 2oz.  Last year's junior trophy winner Nathan Bird visited from Gloucester and hooked a 21lbs common whilst fishing 2/3 way up on the left hand bank, his chauffeur father did tempt a 13lbs 5oz common carp fortunately at the last minute.  Geoff Waring from Newton Abbott angler also notched 4 x 20pounders when he landed a 21lbs common last week.  His catches amounted to a total of 6 fish (joint largest bag shared by 3 anglers this week from the main lake).  Geoff landed one single, 4 doubles to 19lbs 8oz along with his big fish.  His total bag weight compounded to just over 93lbs of fish.  On another occasion Geoff fished the right hand bank and hooked just the one fish, a 17lbs 8oz common. Crediton's Mike Izzard also banked a total of 6 fish, all double figures this past week, his total bag weight making just short of 93lbs of fish falling short by ounces from Geoff's bag.  Jason Greenfield of Newton Abbott also reported 6 commons one session, all double figures topped with a pair of 18's (his total bag weight amounted to just under 90lbs of fish).  Exeter angler Matt Davies fished mid way up on right hand bank and landed a total of 3 fish topped by one catch of 22lbs 3oz.  Newton Abbott's Jason Greenfield hooked 5 good doubles from the top of right hand bank, his catches ranging from 11lbs 2oz up to 15lbs 8oz. Roy from Newton Abbott fished the far bank and successfully landed 5 commons best of 17lbs 5oz whilst his partner Jill banked 2 fish.  Bridgwater angler Ryan Knight fished megabaits boillies and banked commons of 19lbs 12oz and 12lbs 2oz.  Willand junior angler Jamie Pike also fished megabaits and landed commons scaling 13lbs and 17lbs 6oz.  Roger Bowskill fished 3/4 way up on the left hand bank and landed 3 double figure commons best of 17lbs, Exeter's Adrain Lazarus fished towards the top of left bank and banked 3 commons to 17lbs.  Honiton angler Tony M. fished near the boat house on the left bank and was well pleased with his one catch, a lovely looking 19lbs 8oz common. Crediton's Phil Tucker reported a good mixed bag of 5 fish with 4 carp including 3 double figures to low mid doubles plus one green tench.  Newton Abbott's Stephen Hird banked largest tench for the week scaling 4lbs exactly, Stephen also banked 3 good sized doubles up to 18lbs 12oz.

Some good sport reported out from the top lake with Jill and Roy of Newton Abbott who had a cracking day session with 30 carp best of up to 14lbs in size.

Tuesday 11th March 2008

A tougher weeks form this past week generally has been the comment from those anglers who brave the present weather. Blustery winds and heavy rainfall has seen the main lake water level suddenly rise and has without a doubt lowered water temperatures. These unfavorable conditions have certainly slowed fishing form for several but not all anglers. The margins are probably your best bet at the moment with several fish visibly sheltering under tree line margins.  There have been some fizzing and bubbling present - so worth fishing to those spots.

Heaviest catch was by North Devon angler Marcus Carpenter when he sucessfully hooked into his 25lbs 10oz carp.  The common was tempted to the right of the central island whilst fishing midway on the right hand bank.  Marcus also banked another good specimen, a 22lbs common along with another scaling 12lbs. A new personal best catch for Gareth Penna when he hooked and landed his 24lbs specimen common from the top of right hand bank.  Fishing his home made baits, the Bow angler also tempted a 15lbs 8oz common.  Gareth couldn't resist another session the following day, this time fishing the first swim on the right hand bank.  Again Gareth landed two fish his best catch weighing 20lbs 8oz on his home mades. Bideford angler Bengi Smith reported a good catch, a lovely looking common which tipped the scales to 22lbs 10oz whilst his fellow angling mate Oisin banked a pair of doubles.  Crediton's Mike Izzard continues to set the fishing pace at Creedy again banking another good catch. During his Friday session Mike banked this pristine looking common (pictured below) which tipped the scales to 21lbs exactly. Mike also reported two other catches of 17lbs 5oz and 9lbs 11oz whilst fishing 3rd swim of the right hand bank.

Geoff Waring of Newton Abbott found success on the boat house bank when he landed two catches from mid to deeper waters.  His two fish, both commons weighed 20lbs 2oz and 13lbs.  Crediton builder Sean Bevan fished 3/4 way up on the boathouse bank and was rewarded with two fish.  His catches, both commons scaled 21lbs 9oz and 12lbs exactly.  Crediton's Dan Strong fished the top of the boathouse bank amid shallower water depths banking 3 commons to 20lbs 2oz.  Dean Willoughby of Barnstaple recorded two catchs of 17lbs 12oz and 12lbs, Exeter's Roger Bowskill hooked a pair of doubles scaling 13lbs and 16lbs 8oz and  Bridgwater angler Shaun Depledge tempted two commons to 16lbs.  Poughill angler Micky Palmer reported heaviest tench for the week scaling 4lbs 8oz fishing from the boathouse bank and Newton Abbott angler David Grylls reported largest bag of 6 fish. David fished right in the first corner of the boathouse bank amid shallow water and banked a pair of single figure mirror carp along with 4 commons - 3 doubles of 14lbs 2oz, 15lbs and topped with a 19lbs 5oz.

Fishing form in the top lake has been reasonable with Exeter's Mark Downing banking 7 fish (largest bag) and fellow angler David Cameron banking 4 fish.  Between them their catches ranged from 7lbs up to 15lbs - heaviest fish out of top lake.

Tuesday 4th March 2008

Creedy's 2008 season kicked off last Thursday 28th February to an excellent start with around 16 fish on the bank on opening day.  Crediton's Chris Hill had plenty to smile about when he hooked into this lovely 24lbs specimen common - pictured below.

Chris dropped into the first swim on the right hand bank and decided to fish close to the corner island amid shallower waters legering  Billetts boillies - the latest flavor peach n plum with secret agent.  Chris finished his day session with a good bag  of 4 fish.

Crediton's Mike Izzard banked heaviest fish since opening when he hooked this 27lbs 8oz common below:

Mike had been fishing in his favorite swim at the top of right hand bank but decided to move after he spotted some bubbling and good colour midway between the boathouse and the central island.  His move certainly paid off as within half an hour of moving this cracking common was coaxed onto the bank.  This catch equals Mike's best catch all last season (his best catch was an equal sized mirror carp) giving him a new p.b. common and certainly gets this new season off to a great start.  The only downer is that Mike has to catch another 32 x 20pounders to beat last year's incredible catch record of 32 x 20pounders throughout the 2007 season.  Mike finished his session with a total of 5 fish (joint largest bag) and his total bag weight amounted to 71lbs 5oz - heaviest bag to date.  We look forward to seeing how this season goes Mike.

Newton Abbott roofer Jon Fenlon got his season off to a good start when he fished the point swim on the far bank and soon hooked into heaviest mirror carp - a 20lbs mirror carp.  John has also visited twice since and banked commons of 19lbs 8oz and 22lbs 4oz.  Fellow Newton Abbott angler Geoff Waring has also had some good results when he fished a couple of day sessions, each time banking good sized fish - during his best session Geoff banked 4 commons, catches scaled 11lbs , 13lbs, 21lbs and 23lbs 8oz giving a bag weight of 68lbs 8oz.  Simon Diment of St Austell visited Creedy for the first time and was well pleased with his result of 3 big catches whilst fishing the far bank.  His heaviest fish - a 22lbs 8oz common was followed by one of 21lbs exactly and Simon also banked a 19lbs 8oz mirror carp.  Minehead angler Si Jeffs hooked himself a new personal best catch of 22lbs 5oz, Weston Supermare angler Colin Fowler banked 4 fish  scaling 22lbs 10oz, a pair of 16's and one of 10lbs when he fished the first swim on right hand bank. Torquay angler Gordon Batt achieved his goal re catching a 20pounder which he was unable to do last season.  During an evening session Gordon landed a 20lbs 11oz common from the 5th swim on the right hand bank along with a single figure carp.  Taff Vanstone of Plymouth also achieved his goal in style - hoping for a 20 pounder from Creedy.  He fished the first swim on the right hand bank and was well chuffed when he hooked into his 19lbs 5oz which gave him a new personal best catch.  He then went on to catch a 20lbs 11oz common ( another new p.b.) and land one scaling 17lbs.  Fellow Plymouth angling mate John Heath also had some luck banking a pair of commons to 21lbs.  Minehead angler, 16 year old junior  Tom Mc Gowan fished near the boathouse on the left hand bank and landed just the one fish, a lovely looking common of 20lbs 2oz.  Taunton angler Lloyd Shattock got a pleasing result on his first visit to Creedy for some time landing a 22lbs 10oz specimen common.  Chris Hill fished the boat house bank and recorded a 3 fish bag with his largest catch scaling 21lbs exactly.

Largest bag so far since opening was by Crediton's James Snell who fished the top of left hand bank amid shallow water near the finger.  James totaled 5 fish, all commons best weighing 18lbs 8oz.  Crediton's Wayne Grinney banked 3 fish to 15lbs from mid way on right bank, Weston super mare taxi driver Andy Walrond banked two good doubles of 15lbs and 17lbs, local farrier Gareth Simpson tempted a pair of commons to 13lbs 8oz, Minehead angler Tim Woodbridge also reported a pair of commons of 14lbs.  Somerset angler Andy Dade reported a nice plump tench - first of the season which tipped the scales to 6lbs 3oz along with a pair of doubles to 12lbs.

Overall an excellent, encouraging start to the season

Wednesday 2nd January 2008

Creedy lakes ended it's season at 11pm last evening and is now closed with the new season commencing at 05.30hrs on Thursday 28th February 2008.

The tail end of the season fished well with some big fish and also some good bags were seen over the last fortnight making those final trips well worth while. The heaviest fish banked during this period was by Adrian Mills who  fished size 16mm, winterized B5 boillies ledgering towards the central island.  His 24lbs 13oz common certainly looked full of the Christmas overindulgence - picture below:

This catch came along with a single figure common carp and gave Adrian a new personal best fish, a nice ending to his season. Crediton engineer Mike Izzard had two very good sessions at Creedy to end an amazing season, on his first session before Christmas Mike banked 5 commons during a session topped with a 23lbs 7oz and also one of 20lbs 4oz.

On his next session before the New Year Mike moved twice during his day session  which paid dividends.  Mike banked a total of 7 fish topped with another pair of 20's - scaling 22lbs 12oz and 21lbs exactly.  Pictures below:

These last big catches bring his season's total to 32 x 20pounders in 2007 ( MIke's previous record for 2006 was 22 x 20pounders,  it has only just got better for Mike, it's still a very hard target to beat for next season - good luck Mike! ).

Christmas day anglers Jill and Roy from Chudleigh were well rewarded for their efforts, especially Jill who worked a night shift at Wonford hospital before spending the day on the bankside.  Jill banked a 22lbs 9oz specimen common and just pipped her partner Roy when he landed his catch, a common scaling 22lbs 2oz - a very close and even call - well done both of you. Both fish were tempted by homemade boillies from the shallow to mid water depths on the first & second swim on the boathouse bank.  Newton Abbott's John Fenlon put in a few sessions over Christmas and was rewarded with a 22lbs common during one session and during the other session John banked 4 commons up to 19lbs 11oz - congratulations to John who only visited Creedy for the first time back in the autumn but he has certainly got to grips with the water.  Fellow angler Geoff Harding reported a good session with largest bag of 9 fish in total on the last day of the season.  Geoff did change swim during his session when he stalked five fish out from the very shallow finger at the top of the left hand bank then returning to his swim higher side of the boathouse where he banked another 3 fish from.  His heaviest catch that day scaled 24lbs in weight whilst during another session Geoff banked 3 commons to 20lbs exactly.  A new personal best for Martin Lobb when he banked his 23lbs 14oz specimen whilst fishing higher side of the boat house on the left hand bank.  Martin also managed to tempt another common weighing 19lbs 14oz.  Stuart Morrish tempted himself a new personal best catch when he banked his 21lbs 4oz common - pictured below:

His previous Personal best catch was 17lbs 10oz.  Stuart also then banked this 19lbs 15oz specimen common pictured below later in the evening, both of his fish were tempted by B5 boillies.

Neil from Exeter (sorry Neil no surname) banked a pair of commons best weighing 23lbs exactly.  Jeff Baggs of Cullompton fished at the top of left hand bank and and experienced a productive day banking a pair of commons scaling 23lbs and 17lbs 2oz.

He jointly claimed a 21lbs common with Darren Short of Tiverton who fished next door.  Darren recorded 5commons three of which were double figures up to 19lbs which is pictured below:

Glen Wills banked 4 fish with his heaviest catch tipping the scales to 22lbs 13oz, Bideford angler Alan Clarke banked a nice 17lbs 12oz specimen from the left hand bank.  Paignton angler Mark Owen landed 3 commons including a pair of double figure commons up to 16lbs 4oz.  Chris Jones of Bridport fished the right hand bank and reported a pair of commons scaling 14lbs 14oz and 18lbs 4oz. Tiverton's Myles Gerrard banked a 5 fish bag with 3 good sized commons up to 20lbs exactly and also had a pair of mirror carp including heaviest mirror for the fortnight with his 19lbs specimen. Minehead angler Tim Woodbridge had an enjoyable last session banking 4 fish, all his catches were commons and three of them double figures with best scaling 16lbs 10oz.  Myles Gerrard of Tiverton also reported a top day when he landed 4 commons up to 17lbs and Ryan Knight of Bridgwater banked a pair of double figure commons up to 18lbs 6oz.  Exeter angler Nick Howland reported a slow but enjoyable day when he tempted a pair of commons including a 17lbs along with a single figure carp. And finally a mention for Weston-super-mare angler Mr D. Harper who was well pleased with his one catch session when he fished on the right hand bank but gained a new personal best catch when he landed his 14lbs 8oz common - may you better that in 2008 Dave, well done.

A picturesque end to the season!!  May we thank all our anglers for their custom over 2007, we wish everyone a very happy new year and healthy and happy 2008.  We would also like to say a  big thank you to everyone for all the wonderful pictures you have supplied us over the year - we look forward to many more this coming year.

Best wishes from everyone at Creedy.
