Fishing Report One

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tuesday 22nd July 2008

Fishing form is fair at present with the majority of the catches being around the mid double mark or lower  with only 3 of the larger 20lbs+ specimens on the bank.  Action has been plentiful on the float rods this week and conditions look perfect for surface fishing but majority of the anglers are legering out into deeper mid waters.  Water color is excellent, a good earth brown at present with no green algae present.  Up in the top lake there has been some good sport reported especially around the central island and off the lillie pad areas which are really spreading this season. Recommended baits include maggot, boillies and  large luncheon meat cubes on the leger whilst on the surface bread and chum mixer should produce.

Heaviest catch for the week was by Manchester angler Chris Hopley who banked his 23lbs common in the third swim on the right hand bank.  Chris also landed another good sized mid double which tipped the scales to 16lbs 9oz whilst his son, Ali landed an eel of around 2 1/2 lbs. Crediton's Stuart Greenslade fished 3/4 way up on the right hand bank  and landed three good sized specimens, scaling 20lbs 10oz, 17lbs and 15lbs 8oz using Billetts latest boillies.  Okehampton angler Peter Welham also reported good success on Billetts boillies when he banked a total of 4 fish.  His catches, all commons, ranged from 20lbs, 16lbs , a pair of 12lbs  together with one of 7lbs all from the top of the left hand bank.  Newton Abbott's Tim  Greenfield reported largest bag from the main lake with 6 commons including three single figures and three doubles up to 19lbs 6oz when he fished mid way up on the right hand bank.  Cornish angler Oliver Evans from Pentewan reported heaviest mirror carp for the week of 13lbs 2oz along with 3 commons scaling 17lbs 1oz, 13lbs 14oz and 9lbs 6oz.  Sidmouth angler Isaac McKae fished the right bank and landed a pair of commons up to 18lbs 8oz, Paignton angler Mark Owen hooked 3 commons to 14lbs 8oz, Chris Hopley had 2 doubles to 18lbs 8oz and Glen Hughes of Delabole, Cornwall banked a total of 5 commons up to 13lbs 4oz.  Jason Greenfield banked 3 doubles topped by a pair of 16's (16blbs 13oz the largest), Tim Mountjoy fished the boathouse bank for 6 fish in total with 4 singles and two low doubles and Patrick Sanders recorded 3 commons including a 16lbs 8oz and a 15lbs 4oz.
