A good weeks fishing yet
again with some good specimens reported. Action has been greater from
the marginal waters and shallow water depths and water color remains
well good. There have been many fish jumping and blowing and the
majority of the action has been on leger tactics due to the winds
creating a permanent surface ripple. On still periods some action
has been off the surface but this method has certainly not been that
productive so far - perhaps best in the hottest weather which hopefully
is still to come. Thankfully weather conditions have improved this
week past the weekend and drier days are here.
Heaviest fish
recorded for the week was by Kevin Sully when he chose to fish through
the heaviest downpour last week and reported a 'wicked day'. The
Minehead angler landed his 27lbs specimen common carp and
also set himself a new personal best catch. Kevin banked a total
of 13 fish with 12 common carp - 6 singles and 6 doubles plus an
impressive 6lbs 6oz eel. Best junior catch for the
week was by 14 year old Adam Cornish when he hooked and landed
this 20lbs 12oz pictured below. Adam also banked 3 doubles to
14lbs 6oz along with a single figure specimen and he well outfished his
father, Glen, who banked 4 low doubles.

Tiverton angler Darren
Short hooked a total of 4 carp with 3 commons up to 21lbs 4oz
along with a mirror carp of 14lbs. Cullompton angler Jonathan Soanes
fished Billets bait and reported a good session banking 5 fish and
loosing another 2 fish. John's catches were topped with common of
23lbs 11oz and 22lbs 6oz along with a 19lbs 10oz, an 18lbs 9oz and one
of 11lbs and all whilst fishing the top of the left hand bank amid
shallower waters. Holidaymaker Paul Lewis or 'Lewey' enjoyed a
good weeks fishing and tempted heaviest tench for the week scaling 7lbs
4oz and on his final session at Creedy he banked a 20lbs common from the
far bank. A new personal best catch for Kingsbridge angler
Ian Woodason who slipped into the swim just before the boathouse on the
left hand bank. Ian banked this lovely 22lbs 4oz common on luncheon meat
- pictured below together with a 4lbs 10oz green landed his 27lbs
specimen common carp.

Barnstaple angler Tim
Mountjoy fished the far bank and landed 2 doubles best of 23lbs
8oz. Richard Saunders of Braunton fished 3/4 way up on the right
hand bank and landed a total of 3 fish up to 21lbs 1oz. Raff from
Torrington chose a spot of leger fishing in the corner from the shelf
swim on the far bank which paid off handsomely with his 20lbs common, he
also tempted a pair of commons from the leger rod. James
Wriggleworth of Minehead also enjoyed a productive day session with a
total of 9 fish with 7 single figures, one of 15lbs 8oz and topping his
catches was a 20lbs 2oz specimen. Crediton angler Alan Greenslade fished
at the top of the right hand bank and had a smile on his face when he landed
his single catch, a common carp which tipped the scales to 20lbs.
Barnstaple angler James Middlemass reported largest bag for the week of
14 fish - all commons with 9 doubles, his top three catches being 18lbs
17lbs and 16lbs and his total bag weight came to 156lbs of fish.
Heaviest mirror carp for the week was by Copplestone angler Allan Hull
who tempted his 15lbs specimen along with 13 commons which were all
single figures from the first corner in shallow water depths.
Okehampton's Peter Wellham fished the left hand bank and landed three
good sized doubles up to 17lbs. Crediton's Stuart Greenslade tempted
four double figure commons best scaling 19lbs exactly. Launceston angler
Gary Leon fished on the shelf swim on the far bank and reported 11 carp
with 9 doubles up to 15lbs 5oz along with some tench and eels.
Exeter angler Roger Bowskill reported an 8 fish bag with his heaviest
catch weighing 17lbs exactly.
Some good sport has been
had out of the top lake with Allan Hull hooking over 81lbs of
fish. Allan fished past the island amid the shallower weed and
tempted 9 tench (his best fish scaling 5lbs 12oz) along with 6 carp up
to 14lbs 8oz.
Pictured below is Andy
Floyd of Bristol with two of his catches, a 22lbs 11oz common and below
was a 9lbs 6oz common.
